  Tonight I decided to do some Easter Egg hunting. I loaded up Bismarck's model and this caught my eye...

 

 

Almost looks like French doors, but what's that checkered pattern?

 

Let's get a little closer...

It's the ships hull textures in a checkered pattern.

Looks like model ship templates.  The white squares on the turret look like 'white outs' of instructions or some other kind of information.  And you can see other white outs on the 'blueprints'.

 

Cool find.  Must submit to CIA, FBI, and NSA for opinion.

I know some ships keep a copy of the construction diagrams or scale model of the ship on board, but I've only seen those on cruise ships...

AFAIK all commercial ships are required to have some form of this aboard for damage control and fire fighting. Most of them usually have a bunch of different versions in different places and different sizes for different things.

All military ships also have diagrams for those purposes.
