Anti-Divisions or Something?

Ok, so I want to play against my nephew and ranked season is the best time to do that. We sync drop into battle and 7 out of ten times or so we get into the same battle. Most of the time we are on opposite teams and I get to battle against him. This got me to thinking, what if we had an option to be placed on opposite teams, instead of being in a division together. It could be just a single (1v1) or you could also make it so two divisions of the same size could be placed on opposite teams. I know that there could be problems with people stat padding, but stat padding happens any way. I'm not saying this should be called anti-divisions but if division gets you on the same team then anti-division would be on opposite teams. Ok then, have at me, what do you guys think?

Unfortunately systemizing this tends to be abused (one person or the other sabotaging their team)...

This is true and I know it can be abused but so can other things that are in the game already. Sync dropping for example can be abused and i am sure it is. cheating is something that cheaters have to reconcile with themselves and you can't really feel proud about your success if you cheat. Some people will negatively exploit the system (cheat) but that happens already. I personally think that there are far more honest players than there are dishonest ones. Such is the Human race, but it doesn't mean I cannot still have fun and play against my friends. When is a win not a win? When you cheated. You might get congrats and all but deep down you know you did not deserve it.

You can set up battles in a Training Room.  Several groups do this already, i.e., historical battles, clan practice, tournaments.  You create a training room, players join it and the creator places them on on the teams.  Bots can be included, if desired.  When ready, the creator clicks battle.
