They never trim the sails properly in Pirates, it irks me. :Smile_hiding:

But the Kraken is classic, at least. :Smile_veryhappy:

They basically embrace every historical archetype in existence, and glorify the special effects over realism like everything from Hollywood, but they had a good story going.  I find it hilarious how the ships get so close to each other, battering each other with endless broadsides without any regard for how long it actually takes to reload them.  95% of the time a pirate would never fire a single shot at the ship they sought to capture to begin with. :Smile_hiding:

They didn't sought to capture that ship, they sought to destroy it, and yes, they did get too close, the shots from the pearl would have hit the dutchman and vice versa

Because they weren't very good pirates.  You can't profit too much off a sunken ship, unless you pick it clean before it goes down, which they didn't do in the movies.  They just waged war with the navy all the time.

They weren't trying to make a documentary so yes, they went with the more known pirate myths and such about them using galleons and frigates and constantly fighting the navy and actually attacking their targets.

That said, there wasn't a single regular pirate attack in the movies that I can think of. The Pearl's victims in the first were destroyed like they were to prevent survivors. Then the second was mostly running from the dutchman. And lastly in the third was the pirates fighting the navy.

So not only were all the pirates in Galleons and Frigates, but they never once actually raided commerce or anything.

I felt the opening scene (and final battle too) of Master and Commander far exceeded Disney and Jerry Suckheimer's pirate fancies.

Although the POTC series makes good watching, the complete disregard of history really annoys me,being from the Caribbean and all. I've also visited the set of the first movie. :Smile_glasses:
