Super large sample size of 2 games played so far. Playing ryujo with AS. The downside is the Cleveland, but that will be a problem for every CV. The upside is 2 games played, 2 skies cleared, 2 ships sunk, and 52k average damage done. Topped the team both times, put the enemy CV at the bottom both times.

How is it going for you guys?

3 games, 2W & 1L. Just testing the waters i typically don't care about "ranking out" I just like the smaller size engagements and play till I get the discount flags. That said, pretty passive when the teams go to different caps. It's really fun when both end up at the same cap ~3k from each other though.

Could be better for the start. Two played so far. Two losses. Came first in one (Leander), second in the other one (Budyonny).

Teams fell apart. <sigh>

For my 1st Ranked Season it's going pretty well, already up to rank 17.

Have noticed though CVs have vanished over time today probably thanks to strong AA since you can assume most players in Ranked have been smart enough to equip good AA and the fact the teams are staying together far more than Randoms so AA overlaps. After 3 V battles with greatly reduced results as opposed to CV battles in Randoms, so have given up on usng CVs and am having good results with BBs, CAs, and DDs which as I said is all I have been seeing this afternoon.

I am loyal to strike load. Last ranked season, I played 2-2-2 load hiryu to rank 1 despite AA monsters (such as Atlanta and German BBs) and air strike load hiryu and saipan.

This season, however, I dunno if I can still do that. Facing strong AA ships and use 1-2-2 ryujo to fight 3-1-1 is a nightmare.

I'm playing my Independence some with 1/1/1. The AS Ryujo match is the one I lose to most often. Can't do much vs 3 fighter squadrons in alert hands, and there's usually someone who wanders off somewhere to play torpedo target.

Strike Ryujo needs to know what they're doing or I'll clear them, and they don't really get to interfere much with my bombing. AS Independence does no damage whatsoever. Strike Independence is completely [edited].

I've had some weird RNG matches, though. Dogfighting with 7 fighters vs 3 after, and they cleared me with 0 losses. Slowly. Eventually.

If the 1-1-1 independence had slightly buffed 're arm times it would be more than a match for Ryujo. She just doesn't get enough strikes to carry a losing match. Ryujo's cross drops also makes early killing of dds easier. So you need to defend them.

With the addition of the strafe exit an AS Ryujo needs to be on top of his game or you'll quickly chew through his fighters. Minus some bad rng that can go both ways.

The issue with Independence is with her specs and some glaring weaknesses.

First and foremost, RJ is the most played CV for Ranked, almost doubling the amount of battles Independence plays.

Secondly, all I come across when I play Independence is AS Ryujo, Strike RJ has been rare.  If I see an Independence, it's typically Stock Spec, I have yet to see a Strike Independence.

I really want to use Stock Independence but that is extremely hard against 3 RJ fighter units.  You will not outlast RJ's fighter swarm and pray the RJ player is stupid enough to blob all 3 fighter units to strafe them.  But typically they're not that stupid.  If Strike RJ is the opponent, then Stock Independence is very strong.

Strike Independence gets crushed in the air by anything that is not a Strike Independence.  The presence of 1 fighter unit alone is cause for major concern.

AS Independence?  I average Clear Skies per match with her, do all the other "team oriented" things to help towards victory, but if the team potatoes its way towards defeat there is absolutely nothing she can do to stop that.

Too many weaknesses with Independence in her specs but then again, it's like that for every USN CV.

I have mixed feelings with the Indy. I have had matches where "Clear Sky" was given for just showing up. Strafing an inbound strike for 18-20 kills. Next match, is a AS RJ, and can't do much other than spread them out and bait them over friendly AA. I have streaks where we win six in a row, and streaks where  we loose 7-8 in a row. So many times I end up being the last man standing and running for my life. I am always amazed on how often a Carrier Snipe is always the opening move by the red team CV, usually costing him the entire strike. Only one ever worked out of 50 games against me. I have only played 1/1/1 so far. Not sure if buying the AS load out would be worth it (only researched it while grinding my way up the chain). I'm averaging 30K per match, with highs in the 60K and worst was 1500 from the successful snipe.

I don't have any IJN CVs, so I can't compare.

Finally got a chance to play for a bit. So far 5-0 with one death. 19 average plane kills and a mean damage around 45k. Average damage around 35k because of a really low game, a fuso deleted me after a very unsuccessful snipe attempt.

By starting so late I've missed out on the really good players. Which also makes the que times so long.

I have only seen one each of strike/AS Ryujo. Everything else has been stock Indys. In every game except for the AS Ryujo has been a failed snipe attempt but the AS Ryujo made up for that by being my only clear sky. I hope next season I can start day 1 and get more and better games in.

This is my current Ranked Ships with 4 or more matches.

Independence was my most played ship and I had a good WR% with her.  I always outdueled my counterpart and I shut him down.  I almost always attained a Clear Sky award.  I did this against any CV I ran into, even an AS Ryujo.  The only time I sink is from catastrophic team collapses.

AS Independence is AS Bogue Terrible in dealing damage.  With AS Independence you can indeed sweep away all enemy aircraft, permaspot the enemy DDs and spot their torps, spot for your team, protect your DDs and BBs from air attack, etc.  But the team can and will still potato its way to defeat.  The terrible part is AS Independence's lack of attack power (1 DB unit only) is not going to stop the bleeding when you got a bunch of potatoes on your team.  Playing AS Independence is having a lot of influence in a match but you are putting the match completely in your teammates hands, saying, "I can't do damage AT ALL but I hope you guys do well enough with 1 ship not doing any real damage to the reds."

Strike Independence is punishing your teammates.

Stock Independence is good against scrubs but the moment an AS Independence or AS Ryujo show up, you are in serious trouble.  And as I said before, AS Ryujo is the most played CV I see in Ranked.

All this is why I stopped playing Independence and made Perth my go-to ship for Ranked.

I'm mostly playing the ryujo. In the 8 games i played, i met only 1 strike independence. My first straffe killed 20 planes. The second killed the 17 remaining a few minutes later. Facing fighter independence is chill, you don't have to take much risk since he got no strike power. You just wait that he come to attack to gang up on his fighter and wreck them while he drop. Balanced independence is the only one that could be a bit more problematic since there is a TB and sometime even pitting 2 of your fighters agains't his once doesn't guarantee victory. Ryujo is the best CV to use.

Finally got my first loss in a heart breaker. I'm just wishing there were more CVs in the rank 15 bracket. The que times and lack of play times are killing me. This far in and only 8 games.
