As the game currently stands, we probably have another two or three years worth of tech trees and premiums left until wargaming is just producing paper ships. But what will happen once wargaming believes that the game isn't producing sufficient profits? Will the game be shut down no matter how much players have spent? Would they be willing to sell the game to a large party of players who take the responsibility of paying for server upkeep and the like?

Wargaming is still investing time and money into World of Warplanes, which was stillborn. They'll keep World of Warships open for a good long while, I suspect.

They will likely make a big throwout sale, like selling everyone's favorite like Imperator Nikolai and Gremy, etc, and everyone have a lot of fun(or salt) for a few months, then the server will close and the game will be saved in Wargaming Database.

Hey, this is not likely to happen in the next ten years, believe me.

I posted a topic not unlike this this not too long ago.  WG will either have to cater to the "purple" crowd that chimes in here so much, or the real fan base which is casual player.  It is obvious they won't get both.  Considering the way things have been going lately with the almost monthly changes and the drive to push the cash grab (releasing crappremium ships at a break neck pace)...  I would see this going down the pay to win path, or at least something close to parallel to the pay to win path, within about a year.  It is really obvious WG is pushing the cash cow aspect of this, but they really can't (yet) get away with releasing a truly OP pay premium ship.  People will get tired of paying for a tech tree equivalent and they will up the game to sell more soon enough.  You will see.

What happens next?

- RN BBs are released with radar.

- Fewer people play non-Russian DDs

- Battles across most tiers see more and more camping, as everyone is afraid to move forward and risk being radared and deleted.

- Matches take longer to complete. Fewer and fewer matches are played each day.

- WG revenue continues to decline.

- Warships eventually goes into life-support mode. No new content, no new ships.

- Population continues to drop, but a die-hard group continue to play.

- After a couple of years, they eventually shut down the servers.

Signs a game is going under: blow out sale, 99% discount on everything, peak playerbase of 10 people, blatant cheats that are left unpatched, no patch new patches over several months, company blacklisted by credit card companies and can no longer accept payments, non-existent support, no new content in several months, etc.

As much as I hate the idea of agreeing with you...   Well crap.  I think you nailed this one.   The one disagree point is the no new content.  I think they go the other way and drop OP ships for sale for big dollars.  The result is the same, but I think they go out trying to swing for the fence instead of turtling in a hole.

Every game is likely to come to conclusion at some point. For me it will likely not be one thing that finishes it (such as radar or RPF), as these things will be changed if they hurt WG's profits. It is more likely that a creeping change will take place, that the 'good players' will overcome and the 'normal Joe's' will tollerate. Then at some point the normal Joes will ask 'why am I playing this?' and leave.

I hasten to add I do not think it will ever be a purple thing - there are good players in every game and it is more likely they will be the one's who keep the game going longer (as success is addictive).

So if it is inevitable that the game will end, like everything else, is it such a big thing to worry about? Enjoy it now! I'm sure we'll all meet up on the other side (next game). :Smile_honoring:

Really this is pretty much it.  I have been doing this for about 2 years or more now..which is a long time for one game for me.  About the only thing I did longer was Diablo2.   I have been playing less and less...just because.  No real big reason other that it has been a really long time now and it just is what it is..  Time to move along.  Unless there is some big change in the play here..  It is pretty much the same hum drum.  I have a hard time even loading in anymore.  Sure would be nice if they got the team/clan play aspect going.  I have been kind of waiting for that.

The team/clan battles needs to happen, competition brings competitive players to the game. Competitive players will bring $ and buy premiums to get top lvl captains into their ships. CW's for WoT did this, dunno why they dont think it will work for WoWs. That being said, it took 2-3 years for CW to show up in WoT. I really like ranked battles, a little more competition, more intense, good rewards but Its not enough to draw people to the game.

IMO the game will turn turtle if subs are introduced. So many, including me, are so opposed to subs that their inclusion will be an instant quit. They will be both incredibly boring and horribly OP as they instantly kill whatever they get to shoot at.

World of Tanks released in NA in 2011 and seems to still be chugging along quite well.  I'll probably wear out on WoWS before the servers sputter out.

It'll happen eventually regardless. No game lasts forever.

But considering that WoWP is still going, and it's a ghost town, I think we'll be safe for quite awhile.

I don't think it costs all that much to keep the game running, it's the devs and marketing that cost. So at some point, they'll cut way back on the dev team, but keep the game running.

What a ray of sunshine this thread is.

IKR?  I the doom of this game has been predicted for years and for various reasons.  CVs are killing the game this, and torpedoes that, and the game is made for BBs this, and omg the fires that.  As far as i can see, there are just as many if not more people on lately than ever.

I'm not sure doom is as inevitable as it is foretold.

This doomsaying over RN BBs getting radar is vastly overblown, when so far it's just the T10 and we don't know that radar will remain a consumable for it.

Hmm.. maybe they're only worried about losing something they enjoy?
