Improving survival rate

Been playing for a couple of years and over 3000 battles now.  Skills are generally consistently improving except for one stat:  Survival Rate.  I go out in a blaze of glory virtually every single game.  It was the same way with me in World of Tanks.

How do you increase your survival rate without limiting your damage?  I'm one of those BB's that will push at any tier, I take flags, support DD's in caps etc.  Leads to sometimes early but very much often death.  In a cruiser I'll push in and support the DD's and run interference for the BB's.  In a DD I push to scout and take flags; rarely stay passive in any class.  Basically always  pushing.

Usually a cap is not worth a ships life. It's worth maybe half of your health at best as long as you're also damaging the enemy. Surviving longer = more chances for damage.

Seems to me that your survival rate is a function of your considerable aggressiveness.   Seems to me that just charging into the enemy all the time pretty much guarantees a poor survival rate.  One can still be aggressive and survive more often as long as one's aggressiveness is a little more cautious, more measured, and wait for the right moment to charge in, not just charge in for the sake of doing so.

I'm a bit more tactful than that Crucis, but I do often push too far forward in Battleships and generally recognize it when it's too late.  I do not simply charge forward but will push in to support existing friendlies in an area.

I agree with the others, in DDs, you have to learn to pull back. They are generally fast enough that running for home base is OK and won't take you out of the fight for the rest of the game. Temper the aggressiveness with a preference for getting back into stealth and coming around from another angle.

In BBs, I will basically move along a line that lets me fire into one or two of the caps, with a preference for covering my broadside with an island. Yes, I sail broadside, until people start noticing me and aiming at me, then I move. In something like a Warspite, it's fairly easy to dodge long range BB fire. Take targets of opportunity and punish cruisers who do what you do.

In cruisers... well... good luck.

If in a BB and you've gone balls deep...try reversing...its not great..but oftne will allow you to escape and only take HE damage which can be healed instead of eating citadels by trying to turn in a BB.

As a CA just try to stay alive..nothing you do in the early game will compare to the effect you can have as a CA late game when there are fewer ships...CAs get super strong as the game progress'.

As DD try not to cap at first..instead...deny caps and try to get their DDs out. Capping is great..but often DDs try to cap at start and get focused out fast...instead try to do that to their DDs...again..not dying early will give DD way more freedom to cap, torp etc..

As CV ...i dont play them..but often see CVs who never move...dont be that guy..watch the mini map and move as necessary.

:)

Good stuff.  That's a crapfeeling in a BB when you realize you have pushed too far forward and need to reverse.  Happened to me in Yamato last night when I pushed in to support a cap and suddenly found myself as THE front line.

That's also a good point about CA's.  I have always felt that way about light tanks in WoT and DD's in Wows, but you're absolutely right.

Yep in CA its always worth trying to help your DDs early..not to cap necessarily more to deny it to them and use your HE to murder the DDs...then its far safer to cap....but different CAs can do different things...like a Leander can get on cap with smoke and hydro (plus has short range guns)...where as some other CAs like a Clev will have a harder time getting that close.

Use the Fireman's Motto, "We will risk everything to save a live, and nothing to save mothing. That said, my survival rate is 46%, but I'm a Marine....
