Budget $300 or less if possible. $500 absolute maximum. I built my first PC last year for WoWs. GPU is NVidia GTX 970. The first card crapped out a month ago and had to be replaced via RMA. Now I'm experiencing in game crashes. The first one was the "gray screen of death" where nothing short of a cold reset worked. Internet search turned up plenty of posts on this subject for the 970. First step was removing all NVidia software and re-installing the latest driver from the NVidia site (not GeForce). That was interesting because the GeForce software which was supposed to be keeping drivers up to date had a Dec 2016 driver but a June 2017 version is available. Now I could ctrl-alt-delete out of the gray screen to Task Manager, shut down WoWs, restart it and get back into the game. But it takes time. Macabe (IIRC) suggested unplugging and re-seating every connection on the motherboard. Did that plus every connection on whole system. Also used compressed air to clean out CPU radiators, fans, intake filters, etc. Now the game froze the picture but battle sounds continued. A torpedo warning claxon while you're staring in horror at a frozen picture of your Gearing entering the B cap on Trap is disturbing to say the least. (Amazingly my ship was still afloat after I restarted and got back into the game and I sank 2 ships.) So clan mates told me to run stress tests on GPU. Using 3DMark, it failed the first 2 stress tests and then passed 3 more. Here is my build: Windows 10 64-bit Intel Core i5-6600K ASRock Z170 Gaming K4 motherboard 16GB G.Skill DDR4 @ 2.132 MHz 500 GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO NVidia GeForce GTX 970 ASUS Predator 2560x1440 display Edited June 28, 2017 by Landing_Skipper

Just keep an eye on your Pwr Sup..when picking the card. :)

NewEgg has a Gigabyte 1060 card with 6 GB in stock but it's around $430. 1 hour ago, Hanz_Gooblemienhoffen_42 said: Prices have gone up recently but i got a an RX480 8gb and its pretty great...definitely try to get as much VRAM as you can afford and ideally something with good DX support going forward, some of the lower end cards are great for today but DX support is not as good going forward and thier performance drops off. I did know about checking the power supply - mine is 650 watts - but that is critical.

And that is leading buyers to the mid-range Nvidia cards, making them scarce and overpriced, as well.
