Akizuki - DE or IFHE?

Hi,

 

I have a 13 points captain with PE, LS, SI & CE

Where should i spend my 3 points? in DE or grind a little more for IFHE?

 

Base fire chance is 5%, using IFHE lowers it to 2%... Is it worth?, On the other handa, using DE, it becomes 7%

Both, as IFHE is essential for damage for HE and Demo to keep the HE up.

However, I don't really know her or have her, so maybe someone can help on which one to get.

I think either or both works. I don't think IFHE works as well due to the small caliber and poor he pen, but I could be wrong. Regardless, AP damages superstructures just fine, and fire setting comes in quite handy.

AP can wreck face against broadside targets, but the low gun size makes it next to useless when they are angled. AP can even be used to wreck broadside destroyers; but HE-DE-IFHE works better all-aspect.

 

Accurate guns at long range means you can still annoy-fire, if not stealth fire.

 

Akizuki is the IJN Atlanta, without a citadel, and with flatter gun arcs. It should be played like one. The longer ranged torpedoes gives it more flexibity over Atlanta though in that respect.

I took BFT not SI, but other than that I think IFHE is higher priority than DE but you want both in the end.

Use both.

Get one, then the other, starting with IFHE, but adding DE ASAP! (I'm sorry about that; I am a bad man)

IFHE in combination with DE is a deadly combination on Akizuki, and much to be desired. I have both on mine and it's like running chain saws against other DD's, and flamethrowers against CA's and BB's.

Use both.

For my Akizuki, I worked up to a 19 point captain and used the following skills;

Priority Target (1)

Last Stand (2)

Demolition Expert (3)

Concealment Expert (4)

Inertial Fuse High Explosive (4)

Basic Firing Training (3)

Adrenaline Rush (2)

Both DE and IFHE are necessary for the ship and IFHE is when the ship really comes into its own as your 100mm guns can pen a lot.  My thoughts in this design were to make my ship a hybrid in that my firing rate was 2.7 seconds before Adrenaline Rush kicked in, and I would still have the ability to set larger ships on fire at 5% per a hit.  With this design, I was even able to challenge Khabs at close range as I would switch to AP and as they gave broadside and hit them for 3k salvoes every 2.5 seconds.  Most of the time...I would melt them.  This really is a DD hunter, with the added benefit of being able to burn BBs.

I did not take Survivability Expert, which some might argue is a better choice over BFT or other skills.

Am I the only one who don't use IFHE and use AP to deal damages?
AP on super structure and you can get 2k per salvo easily. Stack them up and it really hurts

AP is great to deal damage... when you have a good broadside angle. It bounces off virtually everything if you don't, even superstructure. Given Akizuki's lackluster speed, this is not something you can necessarily count on.

 

Anyways, because it apparently needs to be brought up again, Akizuki HE shatters against belt armor on T8+ destroyers, so you NEED IFHE to reliably do damage to them (assuming they're not just blithely sailing full broadside to you eating AP salvoes without bothering to turn). You are definitely going to want both, because Demolition Expert is good for still keeping your fire chance at a reasonable level, and it and IFHE should likely be your respective T3/T4 skill choices for the ship. Yes, I'd take IFHE on Akizuki before Concealment Expert(saving that for the 14 point mark). It's just that important.

IFHE is a must-have. It lets you crapon most of other DDs no matter how they angle.

 

DE is only icing on the cake. You can get a bit more fire damage on larger ships but it is not essential. Skills like SE, SI, BFT and Vigilance are worth just as much as DE.
