I'm currently working with the 3 fighter, 1 TB, 1 DB loadout. It's a fairly intense setup, whole lot going on. I'm working out my strategies which at this point appear to be group the fighters, go defend the advance, kill the red carrier's bombers. On occasion the tb/db combo will be utilized - but this build seems appropriate for killing the red team's aircraft. So if I fail to do what you feel is needed, my apology. I'm new to carriers but am really starting to enjoy them. On the flip side - I've had some pretty awesome random teams so far... I mean really, really good teams. Thanks to all you guys! You played very well and secured the victories. PS: If you drive the carrier often, feel free to advise the best setup and strats for her. 3,999 [V_KNG] Herr_Reitz Beta Testers 13,205 posts Report post #6 Posted June 19, 2017 I've been watching the Fara Carrier Guide videos... and iChase as well... who would have thought about dropping DB bombs then using the DB as scouts because empty, they can outrun most if not all fighters? Not me for sure. And thanks for the positive feedbacks ;-) It is a steep curve that's for sure... principals are easy to remember but man does it get busy with so many aircraft ;-)
3,999 [V_KNG] Herr_Reitz Beta Testers 13,205 posts Report post #7 Posted July 7, 2017 "Our carrier player sux!" "Why yes I do. Your AA sux too." End of game in my Ryujo... admittedly a horrid game for me. I went loaded with 1-2-2 and of course I run into a USN with fighters out the wazoo... I tried the DB spotting and what happens - Atlanta. So I try opposite side of map with TB. More cruisers, more fighters, they die. I ask the team to target the red fighters because I know - even after strafing a single flight - my fighters simply cannot deal with the red carrier's planes. One of those matches that no matter what I did it was wrong. EVERY where I went had red fighters. Or an Atlanta. Or cruisers with AA load outs. What can you do in such a situation? The team didn't die because of red TB/DB but by the red ships' guns. Only at the very end of the match did they come out to play. I tried scouting, tried db drops, tried torpedoes... and in the end only managed 25k damage. Horrible. So you Ryujo experts - what do you recommend? What load to you give her? And what do you do when you find yourself up against so many fighters? tiafyc

418 BaronVonTom -Members- 1,187 posts 26,928 battles Report post #10 Posted August 3, 2017 (edited) Try to remember that tier 6 is an excellent learning tier. And not just for you but for everyone playing cv's. I spent a ton of time in my Ryujo and went from a 29% win rate....(yep I refused to study cv play early on) to 55% now. I didn't move up to tier 7 until i felt I was ready. 1-2-2 load out is my preference....but....the limited fighters suck so you have to use them with a great deal of caution. Hopefully you have at least a 10 pt captain with AS skill for that extra fighter and db. Most of my time was learning baiting enemy fighters over my aa ships (this only works at the lower tiers), cv positioning (I love moving up or with the main body fleet, this requires map knowledge which you already have), straffing skills (both using it and avoiding it), and of course, manual dropping to get maximum torp hits (this means angling your drops). To me one of the most important things was learning AA load outs of ships for each tier. Don't waste your time sniping the enemy cv unless you can do it without wasting a great deal of time. Bottom line, you wont be able to do it at the higher tiers so might as well get used to playing against a cv instead of trying to kill a cv. I've played with you a few times and know you play your best every battle so no need to apologize in advance. I have a feeling you will turn into a very good cv player with your playing attitude. One last thing, go over to twitch and watch Fem play. Man she is goooooood. You can pick up a ton of good tips watching her and she will answer questions in chat if she sees the question. It's kind of like Fara says; if you go Air Superiority you're relying on your team to cause damage, take advantage of the spotting you provide, and not to go full potato. My Preference is the Balanced/Strike Ryujo, (1-2-2) because of that. Most of what I've read/seen though, seems to indicate Air Superiority Ryujo (3-1-1) is a better choice for Ranked. AS skill ... Better to just spell this out as 'Air Supremacy' than to abreviate it, (+1 fighter and dive-bomber per squad,) 'AS' is more often interperated as 'Air Superiority,' such as with the 2-0-1 Bogue and Independance, and the 3-1-1 Ryujo. As far as facing such with a Ryujo; you just have spread your planes out so they can't be strafed, learn to outguess the dirty, rotten, filthy, lazy, blankity-blank, AS scum, Red CV player, and get in what Strikes you can. Again, as Fara says in his vids; it won't take much to outdamage your opponent. I had an example this morning; Langley and a Strike Bogue on my team, versus another Langley and an AS Bogue on the other. Sure the Bogue all but shut us down, but we kept juking all over the map, getting nibbling strikes in, and eventually the damage difference showed and the remaining Greens rolled up the Reds. Always bring a tear of joy to my eye when an AS carrier gets its comeuppance. Edited August 4, 2017 by Estimated_Prophet

Yes, thats why I said captain skill. It is confusing sometimes with AS loadouts. Glad you mentioned this.
