I fell asleep but my 10-year-old kid said he wanted to join the Navy after he watched the film. So I guess it's a pretty good recruiting video?

Not much on engineering and the actual systems that make the operations of the ship possible.

Or to quote a old chief of mine - "Snipes - First ones on board, Last ones on Liberty Call, First Ones to Die"

They fell into the trap of just following around the air wing folks for the most part, and I was sick of that one whiny AO kid by the beginning of the third episode. As a nuke I was used to being ignored, but it would've been nice if there had been more than 15 seconds of mention onscreen. What about the nightly drill sets, the preparations for ORSE, etc? Those affect the entire ship, after all.

The reason I liked the series was it did give a look at what the various types of people in the naval service put up with on a deployment and how it changes and impacts their normal lives. It's been many years since I last requested permission to come aboard, but recognized many of the crew as not much different from back then.
