Dad told me all about how, as a kid, he ran home to watch the original version (Star Blazers) and we actually watched Yamato 2202 together as a father/daughter bonding thing. Can't wait! Liked 2199 a whole lot but didn't like the space magic / cop outs waving off what should have been lasting effects at the end of Season 1. Something else that I see with 2199 and now 2202 is how much the animators really like Carriers and the flight decks, launches with some nods to IRL modern practices. I never watched fully the original series, movies. Maybe a few episodes here and there but not enough for me to get a full picture of what's coming down, so the franchise is essentially new to my eyes. The show can get so over the top at times. This one with the destruction of an entire people of Alteria to put down a rebellion is a small example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzWfu3STLtQ And that's small potatoes! Another amusing thing is that it seems the new threat has shifted to Gatlantis. Then I remembered the earlier 2199 episode where Domel was introduced as he led Garmillas forces in defeating Gatlantis elements elsewhere and had built a reputation against them.
