Expensive Prinz Eugen or Inexpensive Tirpitz

Gee I wonder which one I will get? Prinz Eugen for $48.99 or the Tirpitz for $47.57?  That's almost a tough question.

OP....JMO...I have both, Tirp makes money and lives longer, Eugen, while I enjoy playing it, it has been a bit of a disappointment, it just does not seem to be all that it could be, it tries, but yet somehow seems to fail, could just be me though.

I have actually had some great times with the Prinz Eugen she isn't a rusher but she isn't purely defensive either, she is kinda both defend when you should and attack when you should if you get either wrong you pay dearly for it.

I have both, Tirpitz with the secondaries is much superior and a great credit producer.   Bought PE when it first came out, have 100 something games in it, produces good credits and captain training bonus - but performance somewhat lacks...  new HE buff helped some, but still just a fat Hipper, can struggle to cause damage, is a large target that draws fire from all over - tier 8 so gets tiered up a lot    And ends up being a tasty treat for tier 9/10 boats.  I really don't sail it much now, have much superior high tier cruisers, and better ships like Missouri and Tirpitz to generate credits.   Buy the Tirpitz and if you want a tier 8 cruiser that is a better performer, get the Atago or MK

I personally don't think either is worth the price being asked for. If I want a German bb then Scharn is a better pick thanks to its preferential MM and Eugen Just isn't a good Cruiser imo.

I disagree, I think Eugen is a good cruiser.  The main problem is that it isn't appreciably better than Hipper in a fight, so you're paying $50 for a few cosmetic tweaks and better economic generation.  For some people that might be just fine, but this cheap old Scot will pass, tyvm.

With Tirpitz you actually get something that provides a different experience than Bismarck.  The same cannot be said for Prinz Eugen and Admiral Hipper.  Not to say Prinz is bad, but you are paying almost $50 for a fancy Hipper skin.  And if you pay even more for the 2nd camo, you can grind more credits with her!

The only thing that sets PE apart from Hipper is a whopping 1200 more hit points. Now if she had something more substantial to set her apart from Hipper, like Repair Party, then she'd be a Prem worth buying. I bought her just because I could. But as she is she aint any better than Hipper.

Tirpitz hands down, such a fun ship to play and with recent secondary buff its even more fun

Tirpitz is a flat out better ship, said as a cruiser main with more games in Prinz Eugen than Tirpitz.  I prefer the playstyle of PE, but that doesn't make it a better ship than Tirp.  Tirp has very few if any real weaknesses.  I'm just not a BB fan.

Heal would be nice, so would the ability to mount both hydro and DFAA at the same time.

I bought PE because I enjoy cruiser gameplay, and Hipper was (is) no exception. But once I get enough exp on Hipper to move to Roon, Hipper's going to the scrappers. I'd rather have a premium that can train any KM captain and generate more credits than a tech tree counter part would.

True, but I still don't think that Eugen having a heal like Atago would push her into the blatantly OP category either. And T8 cruisers do seem to be in a rough spot at the moment, whether that's the actual situation or just a general perception of the player base, I don't know, just that something feels off.

So, unless there's another change to MM, where T8s don't get put up into T9 and T10 matches so much where they're fighting ships(mainly the other cruisers) that can heal back damage(because when T8 was top tier most of the time, they didn't feel like they needed the ability to regain HP, at least to me), I'll advocate for T8 cruisers(with the exception of Kutuzov) getting at least 1 charge of repair party. The repair party does put a significant gap between the T8 and T9 cruisers.

 

I don't want to start any arguments/debates here though, just wanted to state my opinion.

I honestly think you should dabble in cruisers, at least up to T8 on a couple of lines. It would probably go a long way in helping your BB play. Knowing how your enemy/prey thinks and acts helps a lot when predicting what they'll do and when.

I think it's why I love playing cruisers and destroyers so much now. I started out playing almost exclusively BBs(with a bit of CA sprinkled in), but after a while, I started to migrate into cruisers more, and then tried DDs, and found that I really liked their game play and the challenge required to play them well. And I don't think I'd be at the level I can perform with in cruisers without that BB knowledge, or the knowledge I have attained from playing destroyers.

Personally, I'd like Radar as a separate consumable on Prinz Eugen, allowing for flexibility as a German smoke diver and DD herder/hunter (thanks to the 1/4th HE pen) alternating Radar and German Hydro, and Radar/AADF for minor DD screening and some self-defense against CVs (moreso once those AP bombs make it to live).

 

Of course, splitting Hydro and AADF would be fine as well, but the novelty of a single KM ship with both Radar and German Hydro would be a pretty big selling point in its own right.

I can see the sense in what you're saying, and I may walk a similar path in the future. Only time will tell.

I imagine that eventually all cruisers down to t5 or so will get a heal; it's the easiest way to give them extra survivability.

PE is a very challenging ship. I did reasonably well in Hipper. Annoyance is you have to be in right place at right time to shine after halfway through match.

 

Tirpitz hands down is easier to generate credits in and more forgiving. You'll generally train new KM captains faster in her.
