I thought this skill was mostly for DDs, but I almost find survivability better,  especially when you can buy lvl 2 consumables for pretty cheap. Maybe some ships like the RN Cruisers benefit from it, but most consumables, between their use and downtime, barely can fit 3 uses in a match anyway I'm average. Thoughts?

I use it on all my BBs along with Premium heals. I would say I run out of heals maybe once every 4 to 5 games? It's definitely more often than I get nuked by planes or torps, which is why I'd prefer it over like BFT or Vigilance. Don't use it on any DDs except American though. With Premium heal and smoke American DDs can go something like just 40s between smokes if fully utilized.

I find SI to be obsolete for destroyers.

True. I'm only up through Farragut on USN DDs but I've been finding paying for the extra, and better smokes while having the extra health is a boon to long term match play and knife fighting. I didn't consider the heal factor of BBs

I take SI as my first T3 skill on all USN dds and I usually run out of smoke by the end of matches.

I used to but rarely now that I use it only in emergencies for myself,  or to screen my team. I now kite instead of sit in smoke prepping for higher tier where radar and hydro are prevalent.

I plan on getting SI on all of my Battleship Captains. I often survive long enough that it would be useful. If I ever play Cruisers or Destroyers I'm not sure what skills I would use..

I haven't yet cause I still am clueless on when to use heal/damage party.

You would be surprised how one extra smoke could save a game, especially at high tiers. Smoking a reversing BB on fire could give him time to heal up and continue fighting. I can speak from at least the BB's shoes (propellers?) that whenever a DD goes out of his way to smoke me up when I goofed, I at the very least make a point to take another ship with me.

Two or more fires and or flooding unless you spot more torpedos or dive bombers on the way. Heal when a fire is out, but sometimes you may need to pop a heal if you are running low even if you are on fire.

I ALWAYS try to lay the biggest screen I can now, especially in the Sims with her speed. I'm trying to get my WR up by being the biggest team player I can be since I can't really very yet.

Just keep doing what you are doing, players notice it more than you think.

another great point. I haven't done high tier yet. I find it useful in lower tiers too. Maybe it's just not the best mid tier?

i don't think it is obsolete.   i find it useful for every class except CVs.   if you dont want to spend credits on premium consumables, then its useful there.  1 more heal, smoke, whatever can make the difference in a match.  it also lets you be more free with your consumables, as only having 2 to last 20 minutes is very different from having 3.

Yeah, with the proliferation of radar, smoke is no longer the escape tool that it used to be.

I use it on every class except for carriers. It's good with battleships and high tier cruisers for heal, and other consumables like Hydroacoustics, Radar, and catapult aircraft. But I think it depends on playstyle with destroyers. I rely on stealth, spotting, and smoking for friendlies so SI is an essential for me.

I think I'm just old school. I was away for a year and there wasn't nearly as many consumables.

Back then I swear the only ppl who ran it were DD players

It's not obsolete there are just a lot of choices at tier 3 that are all beneficial in different ways.

SI is very helpful when you need it especially for ships dependent on things like smoke/heal etc. But then you have BFT / DE  / SE  / TAE / BOS / Vigilance  which are all useful skills.

Understand your ship and play style and pick accordingly.

I think its a great skill, but not for every ship. Battleships and some destroyers (USN mostly) are great with SI, extra heal or smoke is nice.

I use it on my high tier cruisers for the extra heal as well on Khabarovsk for the extra heal and speed boost. The only other ship I have it on is the Fletcher as I find 3 smoke screens to not be enough on my USN DDs most of the time. Will never put it on my IJN DDs though.

also BBs

I have long used SI on my ships, all my cruisers and destroyers and a few battleships. Not so sure it is the best pick anymore, I find I rarely survive long enough or the game does not last long enough for me to take advantage of them all. I probably will rethink my skills come the next time a cheap captain repec comes along.

I checked what ships I use SI (I term it 'Sup') for & it's definitely on my BBs, although, I don't take it on them until I've spent 10/11 Cpt skill pts on other things.

DDs have a shorter life (usually) so Sup (SI) is not necessarily worth the 3 skill pts.
