Can we do anything for our museum ships?

Title as it says. Texas is being pumped, and looking slightly better, but she still needs help to avoid being capsizing in her berth.

Same can be said to USS Ling, although she's running short on money, and the latest GoFundMe campaign only got $25.

Seeing how most of us players are ship enthusiasts, I'm sure we don't anymore ships being lost to time or being scrapped, and as we speak, USS Independence (CV-62) is being scrapped in Texas. Please support both ships, as no more should have to be lost.

Support in anyway, and please keep this thread civil.

I've seen the USS Ling on dozens of occasions at her berth in that river. There was never a logic reason to put her there and now she's literally stuck in the mud. Unfortunately it will take an extraordinary effort to save her and I doubt it will happen.

Great post thank you! I pass the Alabama everyday and she is getting an interior sprucing up but I understand her hull needs attention as well. The North Carolina which I've explored several times is in the same state. Capt_Dorja might be able to shed light on the Massachusetts and the cruiser Salem's condition (Des Moines sister ship) Some of the comments in the Texas threads were sad reflecting a lack of pride in this countries heritage and the role played by these ships helping others worldwide. Let's hope funds are found for all of them!

I have visited the USS Wisconsin (BB-64) in Norfolk, VA, the USS Yorktown (CV-10) in South Carolina, and U-505 in Chicago, IL.

Visits to the USS Arizona Memorial (BB-39) and the USS Missouri (BB-63) are on my bucket list.

I hope we can save the few remaining warships we still have from that era.

I'd like to buy one of those USS Texas commemorative 1911's. They look nice.

Don't forget the USS Olympia, the USS New Jersey (both of which I might be seeing come the 29th). The Olympia however is also in need of some serious help. Last I heard, they also have some big issues with hull rust and leaking, though I'll find out more when I go there.

Last thing I think anyone wants to happen is to have these pieces of history rust away or be scrapped. I mean sure, pictures are great, but nothing beats living history. I'll NEVER forget the sound and sight of FiFi, one of only 2 flying B-29s flying over head when I went to the Reading PA airshow a couple years back. Actually seeing her up close is something that pictures in a text book can NEVER match. And I'm sure I'll feel the same way when I visit the Olympia. :)

stupid question....

wouldn't it be easier to maintain our museum ships if there were in dry dock type conditions? I heard back in 2004 the Texas museum was trying to get a dry dock type set up for the USS Texas so she wouldn't rust/decay as fast.
