Well I decided to finally grind the Danae a little bit more last night, and see if I could finally love her. Turns out I kind of can, but I detonated before I finally found out. My feelings are mixed. On one hand I was rather amused, and happy to get some detonation flags. On the other hand it was shaping up to be my best Danae game ever, and boy do I dislike this ship so far.

Now I'm relatively sure I dislike her so far because I need to get gud with UK Cruisers, and also because I only have a 7 point captain on her, but muh gawd does she hit like a wet noodle. I'm not sure if I'm going to be make it through this ship and the Emerald to get the Leander.

Danae was a lot of fun for me, and I'd save the Free XP for Emeral where you need them.

Free xp beckons . . .

Free XP'd to Emerald. Emerald wasn't too bad, on had it about 25 battles or so. Then I got leander, the  we had the Spee mission 2 months later. So got free camo and extra credits.

I liked her and Leander seems to be good in the scenarios. I am up to the Neptune now and can't wait to get to the Minotaur. I did not like the Edinburgh much.

Danae was a ship I hated to love... krakens, confederates. Best damage was 91K.

Just 9 games in her and I won 6. I just... didn't like her. Too fragile and needs smoke.

Ship I really didn't like was Emerald. But after that, it's been smooth sailing. All the ships T6-T10 play exactly the same. Fought a Minotaur this morning in my Neptune. Talk about scary. Minotaur learned that a Neptune can kite his AP and escape though. Ended up helping kill him. Hee hee.

Wet noodle doesn't even start to cover it. Tier for tier she's the single most fragile ship in the game. And only the lower tiered RN CL's even come close to giving her any competition. The biggest things you flat need to learn are how to wiggle, how to position to avoid getting shot at in the first place, and that she's primarily a torpedo boat, all my best games in her came from multiple torp hits.

Compared to Emerald however she's positively pleasant to play. Emerald is a danae a tier higher with better armour and HP, but the same firepower, who gets up tiered into 6 and T7 a lot. She just completely struggles to deal damage at all.

I sold off my British cruisers.   Did damage in my Caledon, but we have parted ways.

Loving the French cruisers.  They have great guns.  Try them.    :izmena:

Danae usually means easy fud.  Took a pot shot at one with my furu at almost max range...two cits with HE and she was angled to me.  Ouch.

Managed to completely obliterate one with my viking longboat just over detection range - seven 130mm AP rounds flat broadside.  Zing.

Detonated one with HE from my marblehead.  I was very confused when I got a 9k dmg number.

Emerald wasn't that much better.  Think of it as a very large DD and stick to islands.  8 torps a side can really put the hurt on anything that gets close but you're going to get cit'd by damn near everything you see (yes, even DD HE).

I found the British Cruiser line to be an enjoyable grind.  I played them like big DDs with citadels.

I love Danae. Easily my favorite tier 4 cruiser, I found her maneuverable fast enough and the UK ap useful at a tier where DD's love to get close. The torps helped to equalize engagements against BB's. I kept mine and still take her out from time to time win I'm playing low tier.

The only thing I love about those low tier RN CLs is how easy it is to pad my stats by shooting at them.  Other than that, I truly hate seeing them on my team.  They are the first to die in a match, even before the DDs.

Using Gremyaschy's 130mm HE shells to citadel a Danae at 12km.  Those low tier RN CLs are complete GARBAGE.

Emerald too, because it's even more fun with AP.

The Danae has a 16mm top deck, which is also her cit roof. That means any HE of 102mm calibre or more or any AP of 229mm calibre or more goes right through. The AP point is especially bad. It means if a BB hits you, he will delete you from full health generally because he only needs 3 hits to land on your deck. Do that to virtually any other ship with a citadel and you'll either be stuck with 1/3 ap pens, or, (as on emerald), they'll outright bounce off. In both cases the result is one hell of a lot less dangerous. Most T4 crusiers need 6 or so normal pens from a BB to kill them. For Danae it virtually certain if it takes a BB round it will be a cit, and it only takes 3 cits to kill her from most BB's. A couple can do it in 2.

Just free XP past Emerald, which is frustrating because it is almost playable, but not quite.

From Leander on all the Brit cruisers are good. I stopped at Neptune because I didn't like their playstyle, but many players do. For me Fiji and Edinburgh were high points.

It's like Danae and Emerald are designed to induce rage for the user, then WG says, "Okay, here's Fiji and the rest of the line.  Sorry!"

Yu-uuhhp.   Explains a lot.

I like the british line personally.   But had one of the most shocking one-shotting I've experienced in this game.

No detonation,  full health and just one salvo'ed by a New York from about 13km.  Was angled about 40 degrees to him and sailing away for whatever that is worth.  BUPKIS!

Danae is best played like a big DD, did quite a bit of damage with her torps. . Emerald was ok just a little frustrating at times.

Anyway you look at it you only need 10 or so games in each so don't waste free xp just grind it out.

Yeah thats about normal for 14" armed BB's that get a good salvo off. Be glad you can't see tier 6's I slightly booped in the post you quoted, turns out existing 14" guns can't 2 shot a danae, i was going from memory on alpha values. But all of the >14" T6 ships can.

That said, and without meaning to be too harsh sounding, Generally a BB should almost never hit you at that distance, even a pensacola can turn out from under the shells in the flight time at that distance. Danae is significantly more maneuverable than that. In fact thats actually the biggest complaint of all  i have with emerald. She turns like a battleship by comparison, (she's not literally battleship bad but you lose a massive amount of evasion ability in her by comparison, and that hurts).

If your runnin prem time and flags, sure, for me at 29k average damage and a 65% win rate it was 23 for Danae alone, i actually skipped most of the emerald grind via spee campaign.

It is all good, I understand the underlying message.

iirc, it was one of those games where the team was overrun,  and the few ships left were hightailing back to base cap or stalling the enemy.

The New York was not initially detected cause of LoS(islands) and the enemy CLs and DDs were rushing us down.  That's why it was so shocking.  I recall seeing the direction of the hits/splashes, but I didn't know what hit me till the player sunk indicator appeared.

Granted a lot longer grinding from scratch. -  From memory I upgraded the hulls for both with free xp, (ran flags & camo with prem time)  - 8 games in Danae @ 75% and 13 in Emerald @ 60%.
