Ranked season 7 - destroyer struggle.

 As some of you already saw today, ranked season 7 was unofficially announced as being T6.

 I know a lot of you are going to play destroyers, trying to influence the match at its core and secure a win. With the absence of radar, torpedoes are going to be the main counter to smoke clouds albeit not that reliable.

 My question to you is simple: which destroyer is going to be your main ship during the upcoming season and why? Share your thoughts.

I am going to play concealment build Gnevny to counter enemy destroyers, spotting and intercepting them as they go for a torpedo run and hopefully murdering them on the spot with the help of my team.

Tough choice... I'll probably try out a few and see how they work.  I have an Anshan that doesnt get played much, so I might try that.  I agree with others though, Leander aught to do pretty good, and I expect to see quite a few of them.  Of course, this may be the perfect time to give the Cleveland a workout.  I've not played it in ages but expect to see CVs...

Personally I was thinking of Anshan or Gaede with the 128's (I'm not sure her ROF with the 150's could hang in there in ranked)

Anshan isn't a knife-fighter like Farragut, but definitely has better guns.

Gaede is only a good DD, not a great one.

(may even consider something Russian)

DDs? Anshan, Shinonome, Farragut probably.

I have lots of T6 CLs and BBs too. Tough to decide. We'll see how it goes.

The choice will be influenced by how much of a BB heavy meta there will be vs smoking cruisers.

 

I'm considering the B hull Gaede set up with a 18pt or 19pt captain. I'd go with G7 Steinbutt torps with TAE.  I'd test 128mm guns vs 150mm and probably stick with 9.9 km max gun range.  After must have captain skills plus TAE leaves six or seven points to be used among a few different 2 and 3 level potential options to boost ROF, or fire chance, or hydro charges. 

 

Pros:

• 150mm guns are absurdly powerful for a destroyer.
• Can deliver torpedo strikes from beyond her detection range.
• Torpedoes are fast with good range and hitting power for Tier VI. Her upgraded torpedoes are the same ones found on Admiral Graf Spee.
• Largest health pool of all Tier VI destroyers.
• Gains access to the Hydroacoustic Search consumable (B Hull Only!).

Like everything else, though, God is in the details.

Great job on the pro/con comparison of Gaede.

(although I might have added Gaede's low fire starting chance amongst the cons)

I am assuming by must have DD skills you mean PM, Last Stand, Superintendent, and CE.

The other skills are the ones which will make the difference.

EM and BFT just automatically present themselves,

but Torp Reload also looks good because of the previously mentioned slow torp reload rate.
