Ive been seeing a few different posts about potatoes and their play. While I understand the frustration with people who are genuinely bad at the game, I've also been seeing a lot of hate on people who may have under performing rigs. Its very true that unfortunately when you play on an under performing computer it can make things very difficult when it comes to in game performance too. It really takes a great player to still be Unicum if they are on a bad rig because of all of the visual cues you get that you simply dong receive playing on a low end rig.

I happen to be one of these people and just wanted to point this out. I do find it pretty funny that people simultaneously tell people to get gud, while also not noticing they could also carry harder... Alas, this isn't a complain post, but more of a posts just hoping to cut down on some of the elitism that at I, not from stat shaming or anything, but from really harping on someone because they don't have the necessary funds to yes, even afford a 400 or 500 dollar rig. Rant over? If that was enough to be a rant? lol.

I played WOWS for over a year on a very outdated laptop and my stats are basically that same since upgrading to a very nice desktop, so while your claim may have some truth to it, I don't think it matters at much as you may think.

Agreed.  Your PC/laptop would have to be pretty terrible for it to really affect game performance.

And if it's affecting your performance that bad, you should probably not be using it for gaming in the first place.

Dumb decisions made in game have nothing to do with a person's financial status or their computer specs.

Nope, I dont think that it is something you can't over come, but when I cant see enemy smoke, the enemies speed, if they still are on fire, a clear view of their waterline etc, it does make a difference. I dont mean that someone who is at 40% WR and 700 WTR is gonna suddenly be a 65% WR unicum, but it does help to have these things. I know my WR is low atm because I have very few games and I was expanding out to cruisers and battleships which I dont know how to play very well. I obviously am learning because I had a much better 20 game span recently. But to put it into perspective, right now I have the Cleveland. This ship relies on fires and has very slow velocity. Me not being able to tell if the enemy ship is on fire, where it is on fire and how fast it is going is making playing that particular ship difficult and this has tanked my stats because I have so few games. Its all relative to many different factors.

I'm currently playing on Intel HD 4000 graphics at the moment bc I'm away from home and I'm still playing same as normal, even after switching from 1440p to 1366x768 resolution and now potato fps. It isn't the rig, it's the player.

Missing the point, I've said this multiple times that its not the be all end all of player skill. I'm simply stating that there is an inherent advantage to visual cues you do not get with a lower end rig and thats something to consider in different situations. I've even stated, understanding my ships more has helped out a lot over the weekend, but that doesnt change the fact that its making the Cleveland hard  to play for example. I'm 1% lower on accuracy but 7k less damage. Reason probably being is I cant tell what and where is on fire and this ship relies on fire. If I stayed away from other ships besides DDs, my stats would also probably be hire as their range is limited and my draw distance doesn't matter as much. when I shoot and miss, I can normally see the splashes and make adjustments. I dont get that on cruisers because at the range I shoot, splashes no longer render. Its just something to consider, or not.

This, while an old slow computer with high ping might interfere in a quick draw situation those pure reaction shots are not that common.

Ask your parents for some money. Actually, just live with them. No reason to live on your own. The modern world is a joke!

haha I'm a little to old for that. Sadlly a life of civil service doesnt really pay much.

That should be what pays a lot! THE WORLD IS A JOKE!

It doesnt help that I live near DC where a 400sqft flat can be over $2000 a month.

Move away from cities. They all suck!

Its one of the only places that I can get paid squat for what I do.

There aren't really any visual queues you miss though. I will admit it is marginally harder to dodge incoming shells on brighter maps, but you can adjust to this by using the fog remover.

How do you figure there arent visual cues?

Lol, I have on multiple occasions, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm receiving less information than someone with a higher end rig. I wouldnt call myself a spud either. I've just been branching out to different lines I'm not as good with and its obviously taken its toll.

Those who have only lived in a huge urban metropolis usually have no idea how nice life can be in a small town or less congested place. More are leaving the big cities now however and finding that out. MUCH cheaper also!

I have before, and it is really lovely. It truly is. If it wasnt for progressing my career, I'd be living in some shack off the beach.

Long ago I accepted I was a 44% player.

NOW I'm holding steady at 48%.

7 out of 10 games I am in top 5.

I realize many things.

I can have a great game, but cannot carry a team. I am just not good enough.

I can be top of team, win or lose, but just cannot carry a team. I am not that kind of player.

I lack the ability to be tactically aware, but can read a mini map.

I am too aggressive when I play, often dying way too early and hoping a team can carry me.

Despite my short comings, I try to have fun and do my best.

Often times, my destroyer tactics find myself in a disadvantageous position.

.....

My rig when I started:

Pentium quad core 3.3.

8 gb added.

Evga 550 ti 2gb ddr3.

...

Now:

Intel i-5 3.4

16 gb ddr3.

Evga 550 ti 2 gb ddr5.

....

Game looks way better, player not so much.

They'll all become conservatives when they experience the beauty of nature.

Again, I'm not saying this is the factor of poor play, but a factor. Ever judged a ships speed by its smoke stack? Ever avoided an area that was smoked up by the enemy or sent torps into it? Ever pinpointed another section of a ship that wasnt on fire, or used them putting out the fire to know they dont have repair party? These are all things I dont have access to as of yet. I still get practice for when I can afford a decent rig, but as of now, I'm not getting a lot of visual cues. I'll accept that I am where I am partly because of skill, but also partly because of that. My point is, that not everyone is always as much as a potatoe as you think. The other day I walked right into a horrible situation in my farragut where there was a smoke cloud hiding a CA. I wasnt spotted but when he came out of the smoke, he noticed me and lit me up from 5km away and I died. I would have never been there if I had known there was smoke up, but it doesnt render for me. I'm not gonna complain about it, but just saying I looked like a complete potatoe even though I normally have almost a 1300 wtr and 60% WR with that ship.

you should try SF, ca... id love to pay 2k, be nearly 30% cheaper for the same space, in many areas, 50%.
