I'm grinding the Free XP to get a big bad ship. Sort of curious if I should bother with the Yammie, I have the KurFurst and I'm at the Fuso right now. Grinding the Yammie doesn't suite me too much. I hear the Nagato is nice but the Izumo seems like a really long stretch. What does the Yammie have say vs the Brawler lines? Is it worth it if I've been a strict German BB player? Is it more interesting than the Missouri ???

Uhh the lolpen is why you get the Yammy. Nothing else has guns that can compare to it.

^That. Oh, and also the firing sound effect.

Honestly the Izumo is the only bad part about that line. The rest is pure gold.

Good accuracy, extremely long range.

It really depends on what you're looking for out of a BB.

For example, I hate Nagato. Popular ship but she really doesn't suit me.

For Yammy... long range, good penetration, but less shells compared to Kurfurst or Montana. Also, her lolpen is a bit overstated here on the forums. It's there if you get into close range (but then you're dealing with the slowest turret traverse in the game) but at long range it's as much an RNG fest as anything.

Kurfurst is competitive with the Yammy, and can oneshot devstrike the Yammy, which Yamato can't do to Kurfurst. If you like the Kurfurst and don't see anything about Yamato you would clearly like over it (increased torp damage reduction? etc), you would be perfectly fine to stick to your guns. If you have tons of time to spare, then, why not, you never know.

I have a suggestion for US Battleships.  the Iowa and Montana both had a serious advantage over the Iowa (ok the Montana not so much because it was never built, but it was going to use the same principles).  But maybe do something like the German battleships at tier 8 with Bismark like how they get hydro.  give the North Carolina, Iowa and Montana a consumable that reduced their dispersion.  Those ships sailed with radar controlled fire, meaning that their guns were more accurate.  Maybe also for only those tier ships in the US line, maybe reduce their dispersion a little, and the consumable would reduce it a little more.

I'm not talking about reducing it by an insane number, but maybe initially like 2%, then with the consumable make it 10%...

Now I'm ready for people to shoot down this idea.  But I'd like everyone to take a moment and think about it, before ripping apart the idea...

It would make the US battleships a little bit more competitive to the German and Japanese.

But in all seriousness, I can't wait till I get the Yamato...

Missouri / Iowa are the most "I like Range" oriented BBs of high tier.  It's not because of the guns, though with APRM2 the dispersion can be made quite good for her engagement ranges.

The issue with Missouri / Iowa is their abysmal side protection and immensely long hulls.  If people get a view of their sides, it's easy to perforate these ships.  They also have a large turning circle and mediocre rudder shift.  The slow turret traverse is also a very significant weakness.  USN BB Secondaries below Montana are HORRIBLE.  Combine all these characteristics, Missouri / Iowa are very poor short ranged fighters.  I see a lot of Iowas and such make the mistake to go knife fight and get rekt.

What they do have is accurate guns with APRM2 and Cruiser-levels of speed.  They also can be specced to have around 12.2km concealment range, which I'm sure a number of you IJN & German BB users can appreciate.

The Citadels may have been lowered for the Tier IX-X USN BBs but again, the armor on Iowa and Missouri's sides are abysmal.  Tread carefully if showing them, you'll get rekt fast still.
