A Gentle Reminder About In Game Chat

If you don't have anything constructive to say in chat, then don't say it.

Sorry in advance if this comes across as incoherent but I feel the need to vent.

I was just in a match where one player says, at the start of the match, 'Did you know New York was named after the Duke of York'. Sure, a bit of pointless banter but its harmless; someone trying to be funny. Then someone makes a comment about New York itself and then it goes on about Detriot, then Mexico, then the new world order, then Nazism, then policies about a certain world leader.. etc etc.

Long story short: for the entirety of the match, chat was clogged up with people offering up their views and opinions of the world. I'm supportive of free speech (even if I don't like what is being said), but this is not the place for it. It's not constructive. It's not helping the team. It's not conducive to winning the match. If anything, it hinders team communication as chat is just clogged with a completely irrelevant discussion with no end.

Of course, I should have muted all of those involved in this... debate... however I didn't have the luxury of time during the match and I would've ended up having to mute around a dozen players...

Just have a bit of consideration for those still playing in a match.

I see your point, and, respectfully disagree. 'game' and 'chat' shouldnt be so boringly game only clean that its not a place for people from different parts of the world to share ideas...  sure, make sure you're not spending more time chatting then playing, but.. this game has long minutes of dead time, nothing wrong with say a BB who just cleared a side and is making its way back to the rest of the fight to pontificate on his/her personal views on crap... even if i dont care, they may say something that changes my mind. I like chat, i dont like artificial restrictions.

Some of these folks may take it too far, use it as a podium for stupid... but, far and away, i see folks talking, sharing and enjoying each others company. Community.

Please dont change chat. Please dont put any restrictions.

This sounds entirely like a you problem. Irreverent chat happens, no one is forcing you to pay attention to it.

I don't care about what people talk in the game as long as it isn't some racist stuff, Nazi fanclub talk or players get verbal attacked by others.

I guess it depends on the situation. I don't mind it so much when games become slow towards the tail end of the match. However, it's way too much when it begins straight from the start and lasts all the way to the end. And it wasn't like it was anything constructive.

Also, I'm not asking for more restrictions on chat. That would be the last thing I want. All I'm asking is for players to be considerate and not use it as a platform to spout nonsense.

It did eventually devolve into that.

Nazi fanclub talk

Funny how that's becoming more and more prevalent all over.

Once the fighting starts people should limit chat to match related things. We all know it isn't going to happen though and I would rather have a discussion like you ran into than the all too common but far less than in WoT ranting.

I had a drunk Marine on my team yesterday, it was hilarious. :D

I used to work with a guy that had been in the marines and when Bruce would get frustrated MF and CS would would come out as MFCS.

As a total Team chat class clown, I can't help but type funny stuff... eg: Tell the other team that there are free hugs at the center of Two Brothers, or start Marco? Polo!

BUT when its time to fight, I get serious...or as serious as I can be.. It does get frustrating when your team is have a long discussion about DDs being OP when your trying to tell them to shut up and not let one cap your base... But its just part of the game I think.

Pointless post, the people that rant in game don't read the forums....:B

Yes I do....   :teethhappy:

Really though, chat box in game, chat happens.

Usually there is little to no chat in game, about the game we are in or anything else.

Be nice if folks communicated more.

Then there is the red player that types something "shocking" in chat before game starts that gets a bunch of green players riled up and distracted...

Agree +1. We don't need the dead hand of censorship weighing in--outside of the usual zero tolerance for racism, bigotry etc. I find much of the erroneous chat going on hilarious, sometimes informative, and often dumbfeck ignorant. Such is life.

If you don't like the chat in a battle just focus on the battle and ignore it. It's so hard to read for some of us anyway it's not hard!

We are a talkative server. Those that have played on the EU or RU servers can attest to the lack of chat on those servers.

Honestly I'd rather see people talking in chat about random subjects than have chat be 100% dead like it usually seems to be

What you consider constructive differs from what other people consider constructive.
