Hey guys, just released a video on how to improve your situational awareness in game!  While the concept sounds easy, often times people are only doing "half" of what situational awareness is!

Watch for more information:

What other tips do you guys have that have improved your situational awareness? :)

CV's demand the most effort toward larger(tac map) situational awareness, DD's return the the best mix of  understanding of both the ship view and map view.

How it is done is a different story. I would advise making a listing of your "tips", so people can read them, instead of 'slogging through" a youtube presentation. It would as well provide a quick summary of the stuff you mentioned so people can remember them. many people retain alot more from reading than watching vids, especially old people (LOL) IMO.

Knowing your ship’s detection range can tell you what type of ship you’ve been spotted by. This was mentioned a bit in the video, but more specifically, if most DDs are detected but don’t see an enemy, it must be another DD and it must be close. If you know your ship’s detection range, you might even be able to single out which DD it was that spotted you, since there are often only 1 or 2 on the enemy team with shorter detection range.

Most cruisers and some stealthy BBs can also tell the general class of ship that sees them. A cruiser with a 10km detection range is not likely to get snuck up on by anything other than a DD. Even at 12km, the most likely things to sneak in without being seen are DDs, and familiarity with the other ships on the enemy team can tell you whihc ships exactly might have a shorter detection range than yours. Often, looking around to see who else is spotted can tell you exactly what it is that sees you by eliminating the other options.

You can determine the direction to ships that spot you as you round corners. I often keep my guns aimed right at the point where I can see past an island, because if the detection light comes on then that means either someone moved in from maximum range, or they just rounded an island. If I’m in a big ship that gets seen across the whole map, like a Kongo, then I know that the only way the enemy team does not see me is if they are behind islands, so getting detected can tell me pretty precisely where the enemy is.

My detection circle on the minimap call tell me precisely where the enemy is. When moving into a cap (or other likely spots for stealthy ships to hide) I watch my detection circle, knowing that when I get detected something just crossed that circle. If it’s near the start of the game (or the enemy is otherwise approaching from a predictable direction), I might even know the exact direction and range to them. If I’m in a ship with torpedoes, that is a good place to send a blind salvo; if I’m in a ship with radar then I know which way I need to move to ensure that the sneak gets caught by it.

Really, any ship with a detection range below about 12km is pretty good for fixing the enemy’s location based on when it get’s spotted.

Noted, but I run a YouTube channel, not a forum! ;)  I guess I didn't realize I was a boring presenter that people have to slog through my content =\  Guess I'll have to look into being more interesting!  Thanks for the tips.

Good tips and definitely quite accurate!  A lot of content is hard to cover in a short time frame (which is why my How to Play videos are all 20+ minutes long) so there was no way I was going to get through them all!

Well , what I thinking is , you oughta have "notes" or a summary for what you might be talng about. Yea a somewhat hard thing  to do if fighting an actual battle so IDK (training setup maybe. Could use the "notes" as a outline for what you posted above(vid). IDK, if you have done any college level "public speaking" classes or real business presentations, but something along those lines. Yes, does take time, but you seem to be putting alot of time in already. You may be having "notes" already , so tack a summary to these vids.

As to the actual topic, I think playing CV's (good,LOL) , really help toward having the best overall situational awareness of this game. a CV driver spends most of their time on the "map" screen sending out scouts at first but then forming attack groups. I build situational awareness for the entire team usually by sending out a fighter to the middle and DB's to other forward areas, The fighter launches first as he is the fastest and can take care of himself, or  wack any silly "scouts" or bomb group of the other side. He is also spotting main fleet units of the other side (sit awareness again for entire team) the DB's out over other areas have the mission of finding any DD's trying to cap early and blowing the stuffing out of them beside spotting for the ships that should be firing at the little bastard:) too if I detect him. The DB's are also spotting any forward ships on flank Between the fighters and DB's , you can often find and fix the enemy.  Anyway this is just the first part of CV warfare and only part since I am not  giving away all my CV warfare tricks or tactics , but since the initial moves of CV warfare build situational awareness for an entire team(if them fools look at the map when planes are foward) I thought it be good to post this here.  The tactics are a little different for US CV's since they have less squadrons , but the same. If you don't play CV's, at least be aware , a good CV  driver(esp Jap. CV) may be out scouting for the team right off the bat or he should be.

Excellent content, as always.

I really appreciate that you are focused on developing player's skills instead of just showing  off how great you are in the latest shiny tier X OP monstrosity.  There are still new players coming up through the tiers and I always recommend your channel to them over all the others.

For most videos I do type up a brief outline, but it is in my short hand so it doesn't make much sense.  I'd have to type it all out to add real notes to each video description! :P  It's possible and probably a solid idea.  Between that and posting time skips to skip to certain parts of the How to Videos in the description, I should probably come up with a standardized form that I Just copy -> paste into the description that is tweaked for each ship!

Thanks for the comment!  I've found that I'm best served helping others!  There are a lot of great channels out there showing new content coming up, big battles (I do those too), battle montages, etc, but few show How to Play videos at the individual ship level.  You'll tend to pick up some in the big battle videos on other channels, but nothing that seems obtainable.  I'm glad that others are finding value in my channel's content!  Judging by how fast it is growing, I guess there are quite a few who do! :D
