Better than the days when AFT used to let Konigsberg & Nurnberg reach out to 19.1km? :B

How do you even hit stuff at that range with those light shells?

Always liked her and now she has forward-traversing (rear) guns like the Königsberg.

We just did.  In those days, Cleveland, Mogami also had very long ranges, yet Battleships bitterly complained about that long ranged spam from them.  Cleveland still had those floaty shells.  There are still old Mogami players that miss the pre-155-nerf Mogami guns.  The main thing with the long range gunnery was they were only really effective against big targets like BBs, CVs.  You really had to have your s--t together if you were picking off another Cruiser with Cleveland's shells at 17km.  But against big Battleships, it was easier.

BB players raged against Cleveland's long range spam as much as they did about torpedoes and CVs.  You learn to hit, that is all, because range and learning to hit with those ranges was survival.  Otherwise you have the current situation where the max range of many Cruisers is right smack in the middle of the preferred engagement ranges BBs want to shoot at.  Other CLs in those days were like that, but Cleveland was the poster child of their hatred of CLs.

Let's use Cruisers and "Ocean" map as an example.  Typically that is a much hated map, especially for many Cruisers that have nowhere to hide.  Yet when playing 19.1km ranged Konigsberg, I loved Ocean.  The best part was screening the team, harassing fire with long range gunnery, then going dark.  Somebody somehow spots the CV sailing behind the enemy BBs, Cruisers.  Which was in range of my German Cruiser's 19.1km range.  I burn it down and dance under a hail of inaccurate BB gunfire at the extremities of their range (consider the max ranges also of Tier V-VI BBs compared to the old AFT-buffed K-Berg's 19.1km range).

155mm or smaller armed CLs used to be a whole lot more fun.  I honestly feel bad for the guys that didn't experience those days with a CL.  The only CL that really is leftover from that is Kutuzov.

Which also no longer has OWSF so now I have to rely on smoke, islands, and nifty sailing to prevent my armor from being deleted by Tier 8-10 BBs. :)
