So much fantasy...

Why not just actually tier the British battleships to where they balance?

These are not the ships we know.

Don't try to tell us they are.

Give them names such as Prince Harry, Princess Diana or Divorcee Ferguson - just don't insult history by giving the real names to some cooky kwackery cooked up by wargaming.

We should have seen this coming when they tried to convince us that Leander was the same tier as Cleveland - despite being designed and built a whole naval generation (10 years) earlier and for utterly diferent design requirements.

Find out when the 5-6 guys still alive who ever served on King George V at any point in her career are having their next reunion and tell them they should be insulted because their ship in an arcade video game has the wrong gun caliber. I'm sure they'll totally give a crap.

But Arizona!

Won't somebody think of the Arizona!

Is this some kind of performance art?

I'm thinking HMS Beatrice would suit.

And a carrier conversion of the Arizona wreck could be called Putin?

I formally dub the 10x 15in gun KGV fantasy ship - HMS Beatrice.

Naturally it will have to come fitted with radar.

In order to suit her namesake.

So it's ok with every other nation yet it's a step to far with Britain?

Examples please?

Where else have ships had their entire main armament changed to suit Wargaming's whims?

At least with Gneiss they had actually removed the original armament in anticipation of adding the new guns...

But you are right.

They should have up-gunned the Iowas to 18inch to balance them against Yamato.

Rumours out of reddit that the KGV in the tree will have 10x 15in guns.

Nelson and Rodney may be given new fantasy 16.5in guns.

Changing the ships' character in order to force them into tiers they don't fit.

Not rumors. Datamined info. But the 15invh guns are tied to her upper hull. She still has her 14inch guns on her stock hull. You obviously haven't gone and looked at any info yourself, have you?

One person misread Lion and Nelson. Nelson is not getting a 16.5" option. Now you are being really disingenuous and spreading falsehoods. Lighten up Francis.

So Lion is getting a fantasy-ish 16.5" option?

*looks at GK*

*looks at Hindenberg & Roon*

*looks at Kaiser & Konig*

*looks at Henri IV*

Let's add Lion & KGV to said list then, shall we? Or alternatively, rename the whole lot of them.

Something tells me this thread has achieved nothing very... positive.

This is literally one of the worst suggestions I have ever heard, and I've now read this post twice.

Do you really think that Bismarck is an accurate portrayal of the ship as it existed IRL? Do you think Yamato is? Because if you do, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

They are a hell of a lot closer than something with 15-inch guns on a KGV hull is.

15" is what the Admiralty always wanted anyway. They only ended up with the odd 4-2-4 14" layout because they were dutifully trying to abide by the London treaty while their future enemies were merrily on their way to ignoring it.

I'm well aware of the fact.  I'm also well aware that the 15-inch option was not chosen.  I can accept a math change behind the scenes, where the 14-inch guns have overmatch characteristics of 15-inch guns.  I cannot accept a 3X3 configuration, which is the 15-inch ship that the RN wanted.  That, is some hypothetical and should not be called KGV, POW, DOY, Anson or Howe.

I also do not think that the T9 BB should be called 'Lion'.  There was a very famous battlecruiser from the first world war of the same name which both deserves to be in the tech tree, and deserves to keep its name for it.

Doubly true if she's not actually even the somewhat famous Lion paper ship, what with the 419mm gun upgrade (from a completely unrelated pre-Treaty design study) and bizarrely thin armor.

I'd understand and actually be fine with dusting off that 16.5" proposal as a gun upgrade if we were getting the G3 battlecruiser (which I honestly wish we were) since everything else about the design screams T9 but the 16"/45 Mk I with ultralight shells would be trash at that tier. And the 16.5"/45 and 16.5"/50 design studies were part of the same process that led to G3.

But the 1940s Lion designs should be fine at T9 without needing fantasy guns. If the 16"/45 Mk II/III wouldn't cut it then just give her the Mk IV which apparently would've had a superheavy shell (though maybe not as heavy as the USN one). Also why is Lion getting tissue paper armor despite not even being fast by T9 standards? It makes no sense.

That's the thing, since it wasn't built, they can call it anything they want.  There's no need to steal the proper name for one of the most important battlecruiser designs in history.

Well, there's nothing we can do about it now. All we can do is live with it.

In what way does this not make the ship fantasy?

Yes, I have read the thread.

But obviously it is also early days so not set in stalinanium.

so fantasy ships have fantasy guns

CONGRATULATIONS

You lose the reading comprehension award.

Now lets talk about dramatically changing historic real-life ships with actual service histories to force them into tiers they don't belong.
