Hotkey to Align Main Battery on Centerline

I am sure I am not the only person to be sailing along not knowing where the enemy will be disposed and in what numbers. Right now, you make a guess and all your guns turn to the point you have selected. If you are wrong or things change, it is a long wait for your full broadside. Even in a (non-US) DD it is annoying. Additionally, it is not historical. When not engaging, guns were kept on the centerline. So I want a hotkey to center my guns - it would be far more useful than the command to keep guns aligned to one point, which is never used. Should be pretty simple to add, and it would make the ships look better and gameplay more enjoyable.

Who else would like this?

I have asked also for that kind of option in the past and hope it will get in game one day.  It's just a thing to make life easier while sailing and planning. Specially with low speed turrets.

Not 100% sure I would need such function personally, but I've seen it suggested many times.

Usually I decide which direction I'm going, what direction the enemy is, then lock guns to that direction.

A center guns function would probably cause a greater loss of time waiting for the guns to move towards the enemy if they're centered rather than if they were already pointed in the enemy's general direction.

I agree, it's not worth it to use RPF so you can know where to point your guns. This would be useful no IJN cruisers too. :hmm:

The enemy, OP, is always on the opposite side of the map. Do you have some sort of 'inability' to figure this out?

Angle you Guns towards this area. You won't have as long a turret traverse as you would by center lining your Guns.

Your idea, imho, has little merit to it.

Well, I guess if all one does is camp then sure, the enemy will always be on the other side of the map. However, as a BB main I have a duty to tank damage as much as inflict it, and that requires angling against multiple enemy ships at closer range than a sniper would ever experience. It also means I cannot simply drive in a straight line but rather have to adapt to enemy movements as they happen, and when I am sailing into an engagement sometimes (often) enemy (and friendly) ships only reveal themselves and their commitment to the engagement once they open fire. Only them can the full determination of course and armor angling be made, and if one has to switch the side of the ship to engage/tank with (which often happens), then you have to wait for a 270 degree turret traverse to have your full broadside. I'd much, much rather have my guns on centerline until the engagement in such circumstances.

Another circumstance is at the end of a match when one is mopping up fleeing enemy ships. Waiting for the full traverse can be the difference between a kill and not getting a kill.

Finally, centerline guns help when entering smoke against a DD which has shot off its torpedoes. One cannot always enter the smoke at one end and count on the enemy DD being on the other. In such cases, the middling delay of centerlined guns is better than the long delay of a full traverse, especially when you cannot dare your broadside against additional enemy ships. I will often try to achieve the same result through juggling my targeting point between both sides of the ship, but it is a poor method to employ in a complex situation.

Do any of these circumstances sound like ones you can see the advantages of centerline alignment, or would you still not use it?

This idea has been around for quite awhile. To me, it seems like it would be a fairly easy function to implement into the game, alongside the "lock on sector" & "lock on bearing" functions.

Shift+X, Ctrl+X, and then add an Alt+X.

Simple, right?

Hey guys! Thank you all for your thoughts on this idea! We will take all of the feedback to our merry crew to look into :)
