I see this is not a new issue but earning credits gets rather ridiculous after Tier 8. Anything other than an excellent game on FDG and I lose money, and that is after reducing premium consumables from 4 to 2. I can't imagine what it must be like at Tier 10. The only reason I was able to buy the FDG is I already had the Bismarck so I got a bunch of credits instead of the ship for the Hunt the Bismarck campaign.

Is there something I am missing about making credits? I have played the Missouri so much just for credits that I am getting sick of her, which is kind of sad. I'm certainly no Unicum and I have had to put up with terrible internet for the past 2 months but it still seems like something is off here.

Credits get hard to earn after Tier 7 to put off the high tier population. Too much high tier players is bad. There are two ways to this. One. buy the permanent camo and mount it. It gives a huge credit bonus, and helps out (not sure for tier 9 camo)

Two, play some lower tier ships that you do well in. With that, you can grind creds.

It's supposed to be harder to turn profits at higher tiers, imo its actually too lenient after they fixed it last year (it used to be even harder, kept high tier pop even lower and made T8 not always get uptiered). Best advice i can give beyond going to lower tiers or buying stuff like camo/prem time is to just practice and get better. Usually good players hit up high tier so you need to be better than them to turn a profit, look at it like a challenge. It is entirely possible though. I only have 1 T20 (my beautiful darling hindy) but I got a boatload of T9's about to evolve. I don't run prem time or fancy camo but do use 2 prem consumables on each boat and still usually turn a decent profit. It won't happen every time but if you can pull off some good games about 2/3 times it will usually balance out any credit losses.

Add the Premium Account onto the list, +50% onto the Credits are no joke.

I have played the Missouri so much just for credits

Seems to me that the best way to use Missouri if you're getting sick of it is to wait for WG to hand out free premium time, get your grinding out all in one go, then just wait until the next free prem before grinding.

I enjoy switching up ships and I wouldn't mind it being difficult to make money at high tiers if the cost to buy high tier ships was not so astronomical. This is actually limiting my variety to only Premiums, not increasing it. The cost to buy ships escalates too quickly imo after Tier 6, at least in relation to how many credits you receive. In addition to German BBs I am also trying to level Japanese BBs. British Cruisers, Japanese Cruisers and Japanese DD's. I am at 7, 5, 5 and 6 respectively. I have actually stopped trying to level those for now because I need all the credits for GK.

I agree about playing different tiers. Tier 8 would be my favorite tier if not for the matchmaking issue. I think it is the most interesting historically and it has a good balance between firepower and armor. However because of the matchmaking I think Tier 7 is usually the most fun. However I don't think it should be prohibitively expensive to play Tier 10.

As Unable and Sirene mentioned, premium acct time is invaluable. I bought the year package during xmas for something like half the cost. It helps tremendously. Also, if you can purchase premium camo, then do so for tier 10 ships you plan to play frequently. As long as you can do reasonably well, you won't lose credits. Yes, they are expensive, but before I bought some, I avoided playing tier 10 because in the back of my mind I was thinking, here goes another massive credit loss. I even think it changed my gameplay, as I played to gain or break even or lose as little credits as possible, which flies in the face of playing to win. As a rough example, you could make more credits by damaging that BB versus that DD that showed up, so I would shoot the BB, instead of the hard-to-hit DD. Now disregarding tactics in that scenario, it's generally better for your team and a possible win to take out that DD. But T10 economics would make you shoot that BB instead for higher and more reliable dmg. So depending on your budget for this game, think of adding premium camo to your T10 ship(s) of choice.

Make sure you're selling off stuff you don't need from your inventory. Weak camos, stock modules, stock hulls, etc. easy way to recoup quite a bit of silver.

In addition to what's already been said, you'll want to use the signal flag that reduces your repair cost.

Are you running a premium account? Don't play high tiers exclusively. The economy encourages players to play a mix of tiers so that the low tiers never become a ghost town.

As others have said, premium account, camo / flags and play well. I never pay attention to my T9/10 earnings, I play those tiers for fun. Also note, I just got my first T10, so it is still fun to me. On the other hand I do enjoy a good low tier game, if you know what I mean

As one of the top Udaloi players on the NA server, I have no problem whatsoever making a good bunch of credits per game; usually at least 90k profit, and mind you: I do not run premium account or camo, and I mount 2 premium consumables, Smoke and Engine Boost

Thanks for the tips.

I guess WG knows it's an issue but is going to leave it that way to encourage the high tier players to buy premium.

I've read WG guide to making credits and several forum posts but maybe some posters can give me their top 3 tips for earning credits other than premium ships and time.

To be specific what should I do to maximize credits on a Tier 10 BB other than lots of damage.

Premium Camo=farm credits and roll in dough at tier X

It has nothing to do with an "issue" - it is the business model.  After all - they still have to make money in some way and making premium 'necessary' at higher tiers when you have a good amount of time sink into the game - is a good way to sell premium time.

I would be extremely surprised if WG is struggling financially. I expect them to make a profit and I have no problem with that. I just think experience should be the limiting factor in advancing up a tree not credits.

Also I don't think it should be difficult to break even at Tier 10.

I don't mind playing Premiums to supplement my income, I enjoy the ones I have. I just don't want to be forced to play them to pay maintenance on other ships.

I appreciate the the tips I received so far. Which stats in the Detailed Report are the ones that are going to make you the most credits besides damage done?

It is the business model - it has nothing to do with WG "struggling financially" (nothing I posted even hinted at this mind you) but it is the business model of the business.

Make it too easy fro free to play and no reason to buy premium time....  It would not take a huge drop of premium accounts for the return on investment to drop enough to cut the game off.

Some hard core info  https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Economy - look for Earning Credits and Experience.

Damage done does not earn credits. Raw damage numbers alone determine nothing. You can do 150k damage and still lose money off the game. Why? Because the rewards are handed out based on %HP shaved off enemy ships, coupled with the tier difference between combatants. Let me give you an example. My Udaloi kills off a full HP Shima. I get rewarded nicely for it, because I'm doing 90%+ HP in damage to a destroyer thats a tier higher then my own. Now My Udaloi shoots at a full HP Montana and burns him for 90% of HIS health. Both of those will earn me the exact same amount of credits, because I'm doing 90% HP in damage to higher tier warships, even though the battleship will net significantly more damage. Now if I were to take of 90% of a Mahan, that would not reward me as well, because the ship I'm fighting is two tiers lower then my own, and the game thus considers the Mahan "weaker" then my Udaloi. So while the Mahan makes good money shooting at me while I'm two tiers higher, I'm making less off of him, because he's two tiers lower. Kill ribbons are counted as 10% HP shaved off an equal tier warship. Same for standard achievements. Herois ones like High Caliber and Witherer are I think like 20-25% HP. IDK if that makes any sense at all, but don't be afraid to ask questions. In general, the most profit comes from doing lots of damage to higher tier enemy DDs

I took a look at the Premium Camo and I think I see the problem. The Tier 9 Premium Camo sucks balls. The Tier X Premium Camo is excellent.

At the very least they should buff the credit part of the Tier 8 and 9 premium Camo. That would probably make the situation sufficiently tolerable.

Mind you, one Udaloi game sets me back 140k credits per, and I still have no issues making 90k+ profit

Are the service and ammunition less for a DD?

It costs me over 200k if I run premium consumables. As it is I just run 2 but it still costs 160k.

Even with a fairly good game I lose money on a T9 BB with premium camo.

High tiers aren't supposed to make lots of credits, if at all (T10). And I loathe the idea of playing a ship (Missouri) simply for credits, or for a mission/task, or whatever reason other than gameplay. I will play whatever I want to play because I enjoy it. So I don't play the same ship consecutively often, and also often play CVs. Gameplay comes first, basically.
