seriously, why does 0 damage pen exist in this game? call it a bounce or shatter, i dont care. this is effing annoying...

 

reminds me of 0 damage critical hit in world of tanks, they fixed that a long time ago.

When your shell penetrates an external module that doesn't affect the hull's hitpoints.

Like shooting AP at the tier 5 French criuiser... using the SAME French cruiser.    All overpens -- 20 hits - zero damage.

Sometimes it could have 0 damage because the section you have hit has its hp pool completely drained already.

I did have some cases where I think that wasnt the case though..

Each section of the ship has its own internal hp pool.

For example if the bow section hp pool is drained completely, shooting shells and hitting torpedoes on that section will do 0 damage

^^ This. There is a video somewhere, and an animated gif made from it, where a DD takes a load of torpedoes aft and doesn't sink. Dev's have talked about this at some point as well.

last time I checked, you can still crit tracks, gun barrels, and vision ports w/o dealing actual damage to the tank

It can, for example, penetrate an AA mount and nothing else.  That will destroy the AA mount, but would not otherwise affect the ship's survivability.

the mechanic where "holes start to become damages" don't exist i think,or else every shell landing near the water and hitting the hull would flood the ship in the long run.

10 5" holes in a funnel aren't going to sink a ship

 

Repeated damage to a part of the ship that's already combat-ineffective can't make that part less combat-ineffective, I suppose

I think the logic behind is this:

 

 

In real life, shell fires and torpedoes don't really sink the ship. Yes it kills people and it destroys the super structure which reduces combat effectiveness and all that but, a ship can withstand surprising numbers of shells. That is until the water compartments get penetrated and flooding starts to break off. and slowly the ship sinks because of all the waters flooding. This is why torpedoes are so extremely dangerous. They blow up underneath the waterline.

Nah lol... Well, for HE. But not AP. I've never had or seen a section so saturated that HE no longer does damage though...

As you can see, even if you shot at where the bow should be, you wouldn't cause any more significant damage.

There is a bit of RNG in there.

Yes, I've seen 'damage saturation', but it's not a guarantee.

I was riding a North Carolina that took 4 torpedo hits to the tail - exact same place over 2 minutes.  With each hit went down from full health to being SUNK on the 4th one.

I'm calling BULL on this one.

If you get hit, there is concussion.  There is shrapnel.  There is something in that section of the ship -- otherwise, it wouldn't be there.

Even if it's the USS Caine and you just shot out the locker filled with strawberries -- it's something.

I think it might. Pretty sure I can only bang away at a BB superstructure with CA guns for so long until the damage numbers start dropping.

I think it might just be AP overpens as they always deal damage to the core HP of the ship and not the section.
