Lotta good info in that pirate thread I did a few days back.  Now, most said they were pretty much opportunists with small ships and a few cannon to pray on merchant vessels. I know their heyday was in the 17th and 18th centuries and the Caribbean was a cesspool of pirates....sorta. OK, did any of em have a serous bad azz ship such as a 36-40 gun frigate of that era? Captain Kidd?  Blackbeard?  Whomever?  Was Kidd really a classic pirate? Etc. blah blab.  I do know Kidd got his azz hung. Left to rot I recall from something I read as a kid.

Did they really bury their treasure in chests on islands?  Where is it?  Has a REAL pirate chest from some small island of that era ever been found?

Arrrrrrgh mate. Go ahead and shiver me timbers. RUM....set em all up!

Bartholomew Roberts (17 May 1682 – 10 February 1722), born John Roberts was probably the most "bad [edited]" pirate if you use ships taken as your measure. He sailed a number of different types of ships. But  Roberts reportedly caught the Governor of Martinique, who was sailing a 52-gun French warship. He hanged on the governor and converted into the ship into the new Royal Fortune.

Pirates generally - so I have read - did not burry their treasure. They spent it. Pirates were  criminal and did not expect to live long - so why save money? "A pirates life is a short one but a merry one."
