Personally, I don't think I will since I already have Saipan.  I am going to buy Enterprise though!  That ship will be a definite buy for me.

Very good ship, I enjoyed my first battle with her. Certainly not OP though.

 

Here are my thoughts on it. Essentially, she has amazing damage and kill potential but can be neutralized quickly by AS carriers, particularly Saipan, if they know what they're doing.

 

She's the glass cannon of aircraft carriers.

Players who play for the same reason you do, or buy premium ships for their history have the best attitude.  It is nice to see many buy or play ships for their historical value and fun, rather than just because said ship is good.

 

Same reasons I buy/play the ships I enjoy. (ie essex, midway, indianapolis, iowa)

Sounds like you can get AA cancer pretty bad with Kaga.

Thanks! Yeah I don't really care much about a ship being OP or "garbage". I mean, I like Mutsu and have had really good games with her. I had fun with German DDs and I got Prinz because of the ship's history, not caring that it was a copy of the tech tree ship. 

 

I like collecting and playing ships I feel a connection to from reading about their history. Kinda feels like if you only ever enjoy playing a ship that's easy to win with, you're just playing for the results and not the experience. Journey vs destination and all that. I'm definitely an enjoy the scenery kind of guy. 

 

Anyway, yeah it's always good to see another player with the same outlook on things!

Thankfully no one requested a review on it so i can hold off.  $43 for the basic is still a little steep on my wallet this close to the Hood release.  I rarely play carriers to begin with and TBH, I'm more a fan of Tier 5 and 4 carriers, manual drop adds a whole new element that I'm no good at.  I would like her for the historical value and to have for the future CV rework...  But...  Yeah gonna hold off on this one I think.

Given that it's OP to the max... I would... But MM'er sucks and makes way to many blow out games. That's the reason I only played my Saipan a few times in random. Plus I stink micro managing more then 2 things lol.

I bought it, haven't used it yet, mainly have it since I'm interested in acquiring ships that are well known in navel history. Hopefully it won't be too bad once I get in tune with it.

I went and got Kaga but my regret right now is that I am temporarily stuck with a laptop that can barely run the game and past attempts at running a CV turned the experience into a slideshow.  Bad enough that I can't reliably do attacks, air intercepts and adversely affecting the team.  So when I get back to my regular rig, then I can fully enjoy my CVs again.

Midway at launch used to have 12 TBs in 2, 6 plane formations to cross drop.  People hated that and begged WG to nerf it, which they did, and Midway has never recovered.  Hakuryu absolutely trounces her in every meaningful way.  There are no USN CVs that can drop more than 6 torpedoes at any given time anymore, not even in Strike configuration.  Not even "OPAF Saipan" can do that, she has 6 max in her 2/2/0 spec.

 

At launch, Tier V-X IJN CVs used to have 3 TB fits for their Strike Spec with 4 planes per unit.  WG nerfed that as no IJN CV below Tier IX has 3 TB Strike Specs anymore, losing out the ability of 12 TB drops.  Again, only Tier IX-X have the 12 TB drop capability.

 

WG is now giving IJN CVs 12 TB cross dropping capability at Tier VII with Kaga.

 

People will be getting a taste of what it was like playing something like a New York, New Mexico against old IJN CVs dropping 12 torps on you and it wasn't even high tier.  That was how it was at launch, and Kaga will bring a bit of that flavor back.

I got it, I like the tb's and db's, hate the fighters.  Was it worth 55 dollars....YES.  More importantly, thanks to WG for putting out ALL the packages at once.  We complained on the hood thread....they listened.

The way Hood was released is one of the very rare exceptions.  Only one Premium ship was released like that before.

 

Prinz Eugen, and the drama about that staggered release was pretty big.

 

Graf Spee was like that also but after maybe a week, WGNA changed their minds and put the other 2 bundles as options prior to their scheduled releases.

I don't even play CVs currently due to the gross imbalance between the two lines, and the lack of reward for spotting and shooting down other planes. Even then, I sitll own Saipan and will likely get Enterprise because it's the Enterprise.

 

Kaga? Not sure I can afford three ships I won't play before the CV rework ;)
