766 [SPTR] khaenn35 Members 20,155 posts 6,159 battles Report post #2 Posted May 31, 2017 Well, it's normal. Torps have an "arming time", if they are launched before that time they will die. Imagine the explosion of the ship consuming the Torps before they can hit the water or travel far enough.

However, the server side sees you killed BEFORE it registers that you have fired torps, because of electronic lag, and so it sends a cut off message to the client which stops all action at the point of destruction (time point). Soooo ... although you "fired" the torps, your ship died before they launched, and they aren't displayed in the game. Annnnnnd ... this sux.
9 [SAMMI] Mercury49 Members 86 posts 1,995 battles Report post #7 Posted May 31, 2017 It wasn't always like this if I remember correctly. It used to be instant launch like MB, the whole spread would shoot at once. Now you can actually die half way through firing a spread so 2 out of 5 will fire. But I may just be making this up lol if anyone can confirm that would be great.

Its just the only place that it is visible in game is with torpedo launches, they are the only one that has a long enough launch delay to be noticed. Although there are times, where, I notice a long delay between the enemy spotted message and the ship rendering on screen. (I am not sure though, whether, this is a network delay, or a delay on the client being able to physically render the ship) The way it happens in other games is. Disappearing bullets, Where you fire a round, you get killed, and the bullet is despawned. Stopping you from at least trading with your opponent. Dying behind a wall in battlefield (This one was so infuriating) Where the client of the person shooting at you registered a half a second before your client registered it. So the way it appears on screen is, you run 8-10 steps behind a wall, die, and your body teleports back to the corner. And the peeker's advantage in Rainbow six siege. Where the peeker rounds the corner, and by the time they render on your screen, you are dead already.

You will see why this happens.

This ..... & you died first. I don't like this delay anymore than anyone else either, as one would think you got those last shots/torps off just in time. They changed it (not sure which patch) and now that doesn't happen anymore. Don't know how many Flesh wounds I had with that tactic. Thanks to the BBs most likely. The only way they can reduce it (not eliminate it) is to increase the server tick rate.

This is sort of right. There is a slight delay for each torpedo to fire which is why some times you only get one or none off.

Yeah, maybe, but all my gun shots were dead on in the same games which would indicate that the information I was seeing was the same as the information the server was seeing. The server being out of sync by a large enough value to make the torps disappear would certainly be noticeable during regular gun fighting. Its definitely something out of sync, but it seems to be more prevalent with the torp drop than with anything else, which is why the OP has noticed it, and which why I have noticed it. I suspect we will hear of a few others as well.

5,644 [O7] 1nv4d3rZ1m Alpha Tester, Alpha Tester 12,147 posts 9,111 battles Report post #25 Posted June 1, 2017 The fix in the next patch is fixing a torpedo launch issue but it's a slightily different issue. The issue being fixed is where a dd starts launching torps and then dies with only a partial spread getting launched. Not the same as someone thinking they launched torps but didn't really because they were dead server side before the launch happened.
