I just want to know if you served your country in a military capacity? Also, for those underage, have you participated in a JROTC(Junior Reserve Office Training Corp (high school level)) or ROTC (Reserve Office Training Corp (College level)) program?

Also, please state what country you service was in.

I did Army JROTC while in my senior year of High School. When I finished I was a C/PFC.

I hope to be able to join the US Coast Guard in the next 2-3 years. But, at 6'2" and 260Lbs I have some weight to lose first... :Smile_sad:  I am also waiting to hear back from my college as to whether or not I get in, that will be the main deciding factor as to how long I wait. As in do i try and go in with an AA or do I wait and get the BA first...

My school did not have jrROTC, so no service there.  I did join the Navy, served on submarines.  I am no longer physically qualified to serve, though I do remain registered for selective service and qualify as a member of the State and Federal "Unorganized Militia" per the militia acts of the United States and of the State of Alabama.

Now, for those contemplating joining the service.  My personal recommendation is join as an enlisted man/woman first.  Nothing irritated me more when I was active duty than some officer without a clue as to how things worked trying to change how we did things.  Those operating procedures are the way they are for a reason.  Book learning is all well and good, and a firm grasp of theory can help make a better service-member at the officer and enlisted level, but a lack of practical knowledge will erode the confidence the enlisted have in their officers.

My voting:

YES

Navy

No

I Cannot Serve

I'm planning on joining the Canadian Navy when I finish high school. I was a cadet for three years and rose to petty officer first class. I'm planning on also doing a military co-op in my grade 12 year of high school.

Three years JROTC, signed DEP, and entered US Army active duty as PFC.

Almost two years of training, including a short stint at Lewis, served mostly overseas, from Korea to USAEUR.

Participated in REFORGER, TACOPS, and other TDYs, from UK to Berlin, and USAEUR with INF Treaty 1 and 2.

Serving in Germany was my best tour.  My least favorite was Korea, among others.

I'm underage. Although I'm probably going to try to get into an ROTC program for college. Since my grades are good all I have to do is keep them solid and get into better shape

Yea, I'll be getting in shape soon as well. I have like two years and I'm a light guy for my height. I'm 6'1 and 145 pounds. My grades are awesome. Honors for tow years in a row.

I wish I could join the navy like most of my family has but unable to because if I don't take my meds  :Smile-_tongue:  a few days after I tend to get vary aggressive.  :Smile-angry:  I could join but spend my time in the brigs but that would not be serving my country. :Smile_trollface:

Not many ships have brigs but if they don't there's a good chance I will end up doing something vary dumb ex last time I did not get my meds I started a fire why I'm not sure but I burned down my uncles house thankfully he was wanting a reson to rebuild his house and thanked me for that. But fires and ships don't get along vary well and I don't belive they will thank me for it

Yeah, we sailors are not very understanding of fires on ships nor of water in the people tank.  I could tell you horror stories about people doing dumb things, but I'll save them for another time.
