So, as of May this year, a new Judge Dredd series was announced.

Frankly, I liked the comics: they were violent, but they also carried a much deeper meaning than a lot of people, especially Sylvester Stallone, gave them credit for.

I hope this is good, reflective, and serious, and addresses issues of over-automation and government surveillance in a light that is reflective of the comics rather than the pulpy action movies.

Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death was also a pretty good game, if I remember right.

I didn't mind the Stallone one, wasn't great, wasn't horrible.  One with Karl Urban though that they redid in 2012?  That one was great.  If they were to do a series along those lines I could see it doing well possibly... But take my opinion with a grain of salt, I really enjoyed the Thomas Jane portrayal of the Punisher that many didn't care for lol

Actually, the surveillance state and SJW-style nanny-stateism that was intended as satire in the 80s, where the series originated, has largely come to pass...especially in the UK. In the Judge's defense, though, they (the Justice Department) are the last vestige of a failed State, desperately trying to stave off total collapse of the society they found themselves ruling....an excuse today's political leaders do not have. In short, the Judges are a bandaid over a sucking chest wound and from Dredd's comments over the years he is fully aware of it.

The problem with the Stallone film was the plot was terribad and Stallone didn't get Dredd's dark humor. The Urban film nailed what the series was about nearly  perfectly...could have been a bit more futuristic though. As far as the Punisher, I don't think most people had a problem with Jane...the problem was the plot and writing. Based on his own fanfic film "Dirty Laundry", Jane understands what the Punisher was about far better than the writers and directors of his film did. See it for yourself  (NSFW)

Ye gods, has it really been 5 years since Urban!Dredd?

Well, this is on the radar as a 'might be good, might suck, have to wait and see' deal.  Art style is leaning more towards 90s though, if that poster is anything to go by.
