Hello and welcome again! As you know, I occasionally post ADLAs over at ShipComrade. I'll always post a small blurb on each ADLA here and you can comment the articles here as well (just make sure to read them in full ;) ).

A Detailed Look At: HNLMS Karel Doorman (QH1)

The Karel Doorman was the first aircraft carrier possessed by the Dutch Koninklijke Marine. Built as an escort carrier from a merchant ship under construction in Scotland, the Karel Doorman was first known as the HMS Nairana of the British Royal Navy and escorted convoys from the Mediterranean to the Arctic with great success. Inducted into the Dutch Royal Navy after the war, she was returned to the Royal Navy after a couple of years and finally ended as a merchant ship.

Throughout this article I look at how the Karel Doorman could make its way into the game, carefully analysing every aspect of it and talking of its short history in action. The Karel Doorman was the first vessel of its kind in service of the Dutch people, worthy of its inclusion as a mighty vessel in the service of one of the most storied and under-represented navies in the world.

Technically speaking, you are correct. We had a MAC before that, but it sailed under British flag.

Good read, though, my 2 cents is on aircraft. I think you give the Firefly a bit too much credit. The Barracuda yes is definitely a tier 6-7 aircraft from what I've found, firefly at tier 6 is at best debatable. No one can argue that it would have an edge up in firepower over the planes at that tier, but the problem is she was designed the same as the Fulmar, and while great if you needed a plane with a navigator for long over ocean trips and easier to land on a carrier that's your plane, it was at best severely hampered in dog-fighting because of the same thing that gave it those characteristics, which is why it quickly changed from fighter to attack in many cases because it was already well out performed by the other aircraft. If t scored a hit, yes, it'd tear a Zeke apart, and heavily damage a Wildcat. But both of these fighters would literally run circles around it. If it was used as a fighter (my info is limited on the ship after the British were done with it, though I found the ships attack squadron was given first Swordfish, then Barracuda's, then these), the best way I can come up to describe it is a tier 5 glass cannon. or (insert tier) but still basically a glass cannon. Seeing as tier 8 is when you see 4x 20 mm cannons, but those are also far better air frames that have agility and are designed as fighters to the truest extents. Which would likely/hopefully mean that Wildcats and Zeroes WOULDN'T need DFE to match with them, granted I'll go on record saying I'm against giving CV's higher tier aircraft than their counterparts because it was always an issue before, Saipan further demonstrates that, and lets be honest for a second, if they hadn't added that really unnecessary ammo buff to it, that skill is useless on anything not called Ranger, Kaga, and Hiryu in the long run. Barring massive changes despite being out tiered by IJN, Bogue's fighters wreck those tier 6 planes. and thats the only other time it MIGHT need it. and that is 2 captain skill points that can be used elsewhere. Attack planes are a little less of an issue, depending (saipan's DB's are a bit of an issue) but fighters, just should not happen.

I'd think the Firefly would basically be a dice roll engaging fighters, tearing them from the sky or being torn from it, but great against bombers (what they really were designed for) and the Barracuda having an edge of being faster than USN, possibly IJN, but at the very least having speed and more durability than IJN, allowing it to better survive attacks in the first place and hopefully out run fighters to friendly AA.

I agree, but sadly the way that aircraft are tiered and their characteristics aren't very faithful to real-life performance. There are planes with 20mm cannons that have a lower DPS than those which have 12.7mm machineguns, and survivability isn't really related to maneuverability, armouring or anything else... Only speed seems to have at least some semblance of relation between in-game and real life. If it did, I agree the Firefly would have powerful DPS and crap durability, but sadly seems the game doesn't work that way.
