One way to stop people asking for submarines in WoWs, is to actually include one.

 

Now hear me out - the dev team has already created one graphically and statistically. It's the Russian Schuka sub from a previous event (

 

By including this already made submarine in-game, BUT AS A SURFACE VESSEL ONLY, people would see just how limited subs are in WoWs and stop asking for them (and all the additional coding that would be required for underwater combat). Slow speed, very limited weapons, very restrictive firing angles, no armor, low hit points, etc. Sure it would have great stealth, but it would be hard pressed to get anywhere effectively, and with limited manuverability hard pressed to get a good firing solution on anything. It would get blown out of the water easily once spotted, because unlike DDs who also have very low hit points, it has no speed or agility to dodge anything.

 

So let's get a sub in-game, just to show how awful they would be and stop all the requests for them. Besides, it would be a fun challenge to play now and again - just to see if you could actually get out of the bottom half of the ranking list. :D

and... people would still play them even if they only did 1k dmg per game.

 

Sad thing is.. some would think they were doing good.

I can see them adding it to PvE at some point.

I can see them adding it to PvE at some point. 

 

There are a lot of possibilities for convoy escort/assault missions in Co-op.

There should be a special sub-hunting mode for DDs and cruisers only - 12 subs spawn in a ring around you and spam torps at you until you die.  The only way people will understand that subs can't be implemented in a balanced manner is if you beat them on the head with that fact.

Just make it a ship's gimmick. :trollface:

 

A module that activates and works near an edge of the map, to punish fools who are also on the edge of the map. Like those people that like to duke it out by C cap on Neighbors.

Low speed, no armor, restricted fire angles, only good weapon is the torpedoes, only good point is stealth

You simply make dive a consumable...  with a cool down like any other..   People who are history buffs would not be happy...

that is actually a pretty interesting idea. wouldn't make subs playable, but an interesting idea nonetheless

You simply make dive a consumable...  with a cool down like any other..   People who are history buffs would not be happy...  

 

I've thrown out this solution as well. You don't even need to model underwater. Just keep the camera above water and restrict where the sub can go when Dive is active.

 

When the duration is up, play a surfacing animation.

 

Easy.

You forgot that the sub's profile has about half the area of the smallest playable ship in the game, the V-25 (the tier 2 German DD, I think that's the one). I thought they were pretty difficult to hit with Caledon even at close ranges. Yes the sub has an even smaller health pool and is less maneuverable, but size does matter and you'll be at the mercy of dispersion to hit such a small target.

No. Stop asking. Stop suggesting this garbage. I don't even want to crack the door for you people... because the moment we get the "sucky sub" in, people will start demanding it get improved.

Remember that a sub has more below the waterline than V-25 though.  And it's way slower.

 

Unless you're a BB, you get very little water penetration. The most you can probably hit with a non-BB caliber shell is no more than the depth of V-25's hull. And this is with AP here. HE will just detonate on impact with the water.

 

I would say that anything below the waterline is almost entirely negligible.

My posts are merely supporting the point that it is not as technically limiting as actual opponents of submarines in WoWS claim it is.

 

If you're going to oppose something, oppose it from a realistic position. Technical limitations can always be overcome (as my previous post outlined RE: diving). What you need to do is highlight how they don't fit at all into the way the game is played or WG's prioritization over fast-paced naval action. Submarine gameplay is slow, stalking, steady-paced hunting. The direct antithesis to World of Warships.
