After watching 3-4 Streamers playing them, maybe 1 out of them all, is actually "good" with CV's.  I attached the reviews in the links below.  Summary,  Kaga has T6 planes but VERY STRONG strike capability with 12 Torpedo bombers (Saipan has 6, T9 Torps).  The dive bombers have pinpoint accuracy (shouldnt this be the US?). Large fighter squadrons, but only tier 6 planes.  Which means you will need to run the dog fighting captain skill for your fighters.  Overall it seems like a very impressive ship, even vs the Saipan.

My thoughts are that in a "good" CV captains hands this is the new OP CV.  Yes, better than Saipan (I said it first).  Key words; in the hands of a skilled CV captain.  Now! the question is... Does WG have a Post Japanese WWII admiral as their CV balance leader making all the designs behind the scenes?  That guy must hate US.  It seems that they have practically switched loadouts on the Saipan and Kaga in comparison to WG's traditional US vs IJN carrier styles.  Kaga has large squadrons and Saipan has small squadrons, Kaga has practically 100% accuracy on DB's (without DF up) vs the RNG DB of US carriers, etc etc.  Basically You have better torpedos and Dive bombers on the Kaga.  The only down side is you only have 14 DB total.  Did I mention the Kaga has about double the hanger size of Saipan?

Although, I am very excited that WG has created a CV that actually seems balanced vs surface ships. Hear me out..  With the way AA is in todays game and nearly every cruiser and some DD in the game is capable of running DF, this is going to be interesting and carriers may once again be feared and people will fear, the Kaga lol.   You will see many more AA builds at T7/T8 and may even see ship escorts more than use to.  On the other hand it upsets me because once again I feel that IJN will be on top (damage wise).  Personally, it seems like WG has it in their minds that the soul purpose for US carriers is to chase the IJN planes around the map only to attempt to counter their strikes..  While the IJN captains focus their attention on landing strikes.

I could discuss this more in depth, but just wanted to put out some thoughts.  BTW she is a gorgeous ship, absolutely beautiful!

Open for discussion :)

I'm greatly looking forward to her regardless of what does or does not change. I've had a soft spot for Akagi and Kaga ever since putting huge amounts of my childhood into Aces of the Pacific on PC, so having her in my port to play around with will be a real treat.

God help me I might even try to get good enough with CVs to take them into Random without feeling bad for my own team.

I might surmise Kaga will be the biggest XP piñata in the game.

Lots of low-health planes, crappy AA, and the maneuverability of a Tosa class Battleship.

And then there's Aerroon stomping all over a Kaga with his Saipan. It should be noted that 1nv4d3rz1m in the Kaga is no scrub.

I am not going to call anyone a scrub.

However lets also note that only 4% of all of this guys games are in CV's.  There is also not ONE carrier in his top 30 ships list according to Warships.today (games played totals).  So basically this person does not play carriers.

Not saying he's a CV guru, but he has almost 200 games in CVs with a 72% winrate. With that resume (albeit a short one) I'd take him over the majority of CV players out there.

Good points, we may very well see.

Something to keep in mind too, is that during testing if WG notices any slight weakness in Kaga, they will buff her.  The point is though, that we see the mindset behind their design and the buffs/tweaks will still most likely implement those.  For example if her planes are constantly destroyed they may very well make them T7 planes (fighters only maybe).

Just what the game needs more guys sitting in complete safety and crapping on people trying to play a game. I hope the devs in ships figure out faster than the wot devs did that having a class with zero counter crapping on people while cowering in the back of the map is bad for the game. But being they are WG devs, I really doubt it.

If you are top tier maybe. If you end in a T9 match USN BB and cruiser will chew up your T6 planes. A Baltimore and my Missouri killed a complete alpha strike.

But the Hood comes first because the Bismarck campaign starts in 2 weeks.

Kaga and Saipan represent the worst of premium ship balance and CV vs. surface ship balance at the same time. They may be balanced against each other (debatable), but crapall over everything else. Not a fan.

I'm hoping she doesn't get released until the end of the month - I need some time to save up for her, Akagi/Kaga are my favorite IJN CVs and I've been waiting for them since I started playing the game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that Kaga will be in the game.

That said, it would be foolish to release any new (especially premium) CVs before the entirety of their rework is complete, and WG is as certain as they'll ever be that it's all "working as intended".

Regardless of whatever prior experience 1nv4d3rz1m my have in CVs, In the video, Aeroon (who definitely knows his CV play) is quite complementary of 1nv4d3rz1m's gameplay in the Kaga.

Overall, the video highlights how the Saipan's "Fighter Strafe out of Lock with no plane loss" advantage can be used as an exploit to gain air dominance.  Really, this is an exploit that the Saipan can use against any other T7 CV, but it's particularly powerful against the Kaga due to her relatively slow, individually weak T6 fighter squadrons.  The Kaga can't lock down the Saipan's fighters, nor can she group her fighters and overwhelm with numbers, as this opens her fighters up to being strafted en masse.

Given the 100% mirrored nature of CV MM, I do think it's a problem if one CV at any given tier hard counters another, especially since when one CV gains dominance in a match early, this usually has a strong effect on the overall match outcome.

I also agree with you in this.  I think US Should always have better fighters and even better fighter loadouts, and I am glad that WG at least realizes this, because historically that is the main noticable trait of the US navy,  its her fighters.  However The balance issue is going to require a complete CV rework that allows each nation to have its main strengths, but also allow some other flexibility too.  For example US ships are known for pure fighter loadout or basically no fighter cover at all.  It would be, so to say, in a perfect world to have strong fighters, but also have a somewhat balanced loadout, even giving IJN better strike but worse fighters.

Personally I think they should get rid of Mirror CV MM.  Let the MM roll the dice.  I even think they should have games with 1vs0 CV.  Yep I said it and I dont care if im the one without the CV, because I usually run AA ships anyways so it would be fun :D

Date for the Kaga: first week of June. Or this would be rather a matching date.
