BB's DON'T always sit in the back

No this is not a unique occasion and no I am not the only BB player to do this. Yes I died early, but I made a choice early in the match: 1) help push a cap in a radar heavy match where our Russian/German DD's were out matched by a more stealthy setup (Benson/Shimikaze) or 2) go with the flow and possibly push later.

Either way could have yielded the same result as no one can tell the future right? However, in the first couple of minutes of the game, I helped flush out "B" cap for our DD's and this is something I do quite often - push the caps in BB's. But the 7 total main battery hits (out of 11 fired) for 54k with the 2 torp hits for another 19k and some secondary hits was a nice touch. Let alone the payout of 358k profit.

I've been accused of being a BB main, but at this point I have more games in CA's and DD's (combined) than I do in BB's. 2,574 in CA's, 913 in DD's (3,487 total) compared to 3,464 in BB's (but 1,257 of those are just in 1 BB, /shrug). Point being, "always"/"never" are definitive terms and are more often than not, used in an exaggerated fashion.

While this post is a pseudo plug for a decent push imho on a cap flush, it can also serve as some proof that there are some of us that do push caps in BB's. Not only that, but do play ships other than BB's and quite often. Oh and since I stopped linking my stats in my signature a long time ago, I'm a "blue" player (average). Not the worst, never claimed to be the best and always, I do mean always, looking to improve. I think that's where the key is and where sometimes people make themselves fall short, but that's another topic.

Replay is here.

EDIT: Changed the title due to the fact of people not being able to get past reading only the title before responding... That actually has me concerned. Not joking to be honest.

Nope. Battleships are a broken class. get close your torped. Stay back everyone dies, you get torped. It's boring and not fun.

Nerf their dispersion for long range and stop the wild shots from 8km and you'll see players get aggressive again. Until then i'm not going close to a CA or DD to be someones free XP.

Your right of course, not all BB players sit back and snipe.  Those that don't are pure gold for the teams they play on and should probably receive some sort of medal or commendation for their action.  Believe me, it's a huge thing for a cruiser of destroyer commander to know that your battleships have your back.

I main battleships and I always push and I rarely take a torp and I have great dispersion at close range. I honestly don't know what you are talking about.

Nope look at the damage he took.  Almost 1/2 (33k/80k ) of it is fire damage; nerf fire damage. Lets nerf cruiser long range dispersion so they can't just stay 10s+ shell flight times back dodging BB fire.

Been more aggressive in my BBs lately. Closing to caps especially in Germans, High T Japanese, and NCs or lower Americans. (though I don't have a Missouri, this ship fits the bill)   Finding that I can help contest caps, get killed earlier, but usually get at least a third more damage than my ship is worth.  Usually delete at least one ship more like 2-3, so those are guns that are completely taken out of the game.  If you think about it, what do you find close?  DDs of course, but also some CAs that sneak in and try to pick off the DDs, they usually don't appreciate a close in BB.  Added bonus, enemy BBs usually get scared even further back and that negates their effectiveness.  I may eat a torp or two but rarely more, as I am heading into them for the most part and changing speed completely messes launches up.  Meanwhile my secondaries are supporting our DD.  win win win!

He who will not dare, cannot win.

This, quoted for many truths, and as for the thread, i dont like to hang back in my battleships at all, i like brawling, secondaries going off, if i dont get that at least once a  game i feel like something went wrong, now before you say, "oh meh gerd dont yolo in just because you like brawling" calm thyself, i wont yolo into a place where i know i wont win or have a good chance at doing some good damage to help the team, thats where the team comes in, or lack thereof i should say, its rare to see others actually back up a battleship thats trying to push a flank or a cap, thats why some bbs hang back, because they have no support, and some.....well, theres no sugarcoating it, some just hang back because they're either cowards or they dont want to get the paint scratched on that shiny new premium they just got

I'm of the mind "f*** it. I'll get it back later". Let's rock and roll.

See and I start each game with the mind set of an aggressive push. Call out where I going. Then the game starts and I look at the where the team goes and what early Intel of the reds and if a change is needed I call out what I think. Then I start seeing my support pull back and my mind set changes to "I'll still push a little and see how things go". Then my support completely abandons the push and suddenly it's "YOLO". Because at that point my team deserves to lose a BB

Good push.  I ALWAYS look to push.  But the MM and spawn doesn't always cooperate.  You were fine because all other BBs were T8 and only one T9.  Of course, those CAs can hurt you if you don't have support.  On the flip side, if you do have support and the enemy BBs don't push...that's how you steamroll a cap.

I had a frustrating game the other day where my Yamato spawned ALONE on the north side of a three caper and everyone else went south.  Although I was full speed to the south, they just left me behind.  I couldn't push either cap by myself and couldn't get angled as I was full speed to catch up.  An enemy DD swung through the top cap and was on my tail, when a T9 BB showed in the mid cap...and then a flight of bombers and torp planes show up coming from the north.  Bless his heart, a friendly DD came back to help, and got the attention of the planes as well as the DD.  But I had to put my [edited]to the TBDs and angle it to the T9 to avoid gets broadside salvos, not to mention avoid any torps that might show from the north DD.  I was shooting on the run, but it was a frustrating run.

I trek'd all the way from the north...all the way to the point I felt I was close enough to my team (now all huddled to the SOUTH of the A cap) to swing around into an offensive posture.  About this time, one of the players, who lemming'd with the south group and had gotten killed came up in chat chastising the Yamato for camping!!!!!  FFS....I just spent the whole game working my way to the team in a posture necessary for survival,  so I could be an integrated piece of the team, and I get labelled a camper.  Being a BB push guy, especially in my Yamato,  you gotta know how much that hurt.

Kudos to the DD teammate who came back.  Without him, I would have been seriously compromised by the DD, a BB, and TBDs.
