I have the Udaloi, now what do I do with it?

Just traded in my Ognevoi for the Udaloi and I am struggling to find its role.  I have it spec'd for concealment at 6.8km, but that's simply not enough to contest caps with Gearings, Yugos and Fletchers in the area because they get a full 1km head-start on me.  The torpedoes are basically useless as offensive weapons.  The thing is WIDE and I find myself eating huge salvos from basically everyone.

 

So, I can't contest caps, I can't torpedo boat, but I've got good guns... is that enough?

Russian DDs are not concealment builds. Your job, as that type, is to bug the shite out of cruisers and BBs with your guns. Take BFT and use the quicker reload module (unless that's tier 10...) and zip around the battlefield firing Stalinuim shells. Fire from max range, and if you're manly, take heals for 'tankiness' swapping out smoke.

I have re-specced the Udaloi as a pure gun boat, ditching concealment for max rudder shift, and getting rid of concealment on my captain for IFHE.  I will give it a try.

Ognevoi can run a concealment build.

 

Udaloi can not. Udaloi relies on it's superior speed over Ognevoi and extra gunpower in order to become a long-range HE spammer and firestarter.

You are right, Russian DDs are useless, plus you have open USN DD line, why did you waste time for Russian line??

It will be better if you choose IJN or German DD lines...

I am gonna go ahead and guess this is sarcasm, based on the fact that just about all your DDs are Russian....and NONE are USN or German...

It took me a while (like to T8) to understand the Russian DDs. The name has to start with a K, and they have to be tricked out as solid gunboats. The Kiev and the Khab are the best light cruisers in the world. Play them like a DD and die fast. Dance at the edge of the guns, throws fish as able, hurt the other team. One in a while grab and empty cap.

do you think there is a good reason for picking one line over the other?  I still haven't gotten that high in the line although I will have two captains ready when I do get to the Tier VIIIs

You're playing her exactly wrong exactly.

Your job is to piss off everything. You will be seen. You will take damage. You will find yourself in teeth-grinding, heart-pounding, "wtff do i do" moments on a regular basis.

-Your torps are a bonus. Don't lose any sleep over misses.

-Your guns are for fires and keeping up the pressure. 

-Your ROF, speed, hp, and straight arcs are your advantages. Your wide turning circle, large profile, poor concealment, and thick thighs are your weaknesses.

-Stay at range, don't cap unless abandoned.

-Don't sit in smoke. Smoke your team and spot with open guns.

-Concealment is useless. AFT, them go for 3 point skills.

-You stop, you die. Unless you're setting up a professional ambush, you don't want to be still.
