IJN carriers starboard side AA guns question

I'm curious as to why most IJN carriers have the type 89 mod 1 Mod 2 AA guns on the rear starboard side as seen with the Hiryu, Shokaku, and Kaga whereas the rest of the ship is using just the standard uncovered ones?  Does anyone know?  There's gotta be some reason and I can't quite figure it out?

The pictures don't show it but the covered turrets are sitting right behind the smokestacks which on IJN CVs come out on the starboard side rather than stick straight up in the air.

It's only a presumption on my part but I would imagine the covered turrets were to keep the smoke out of the eyes and lungs of the gunners.

Exactly this. You can also see that the 25mm mounts behind the smokestacks are covered while the other ones are open.
