How to Play in the Event of a Nuclear Holocaust

Hello, everyone. I started this thread in order to ensure to the best of my ability that the residents of the WoWs forums will be able to continue sailing in the event of a nuclear holocaust. I will share what little I know with the community in an effort to increase our collective resilience to this future catastrophe.

Firstly, I think it should be acknowledged that we live in a dangerous world. A world in which there always lurks on the unlucky side of poor judgment the possibility of self-annihilation. This is the precarious path that our acceptance of technology has unceremoniously pushed us toward. We cannot escape it, so we must learn to live with it, and that is precisely what this thread is about: living with the possibility of a nuclear holocaust.

That out of the way, here are a few tips to keep your computer and internet functional enough to sail (and watch anime) in the event of all-out global thermonuclear war:

  • An EMP resistant surge protector.

It's unwise to protect your computer only from surges of power when the possibility of nuclear war crouches, ready to pounce, around the corner. Smarten up now before it's too late and purchase an EMP resistant surge protector. If you don't, your days of watching anime and sailing the high seas in your shapely German battleships may abruptly come to an end.

  • Thick curtains or drapes.

We've all read about how obnoxiously bright nuclear warheads are when they detonate, so to avoid blindness, which would certainly impair your ability to appreciate your waifu (Bismarck <3), purchase curtains or drapes with some additional thickness. I recommend navy blue, as it is simply a pleasant color, and it's also perfect for the residents of these forums for an obvious reason. ;)

  • A few extra boxes of cereal.

In the days following nuclear war, it may be rather crowded in your local supermarket, so make sure to have a few extra boxes of cereal at home. Cereal lasts a while normally, which is wonderful, but don't forget to avoid those pesky preservatives and artificial sweeteners. They will decrease your IQ, which means it will be harder to reach blue or unicum level stats.

  • Reinforced windows.

Nuclear explosions tend to have shockwaves that are strong enough to shatter windows, so reinforce your windows with scotch tape to make sure they're extra durable. Apply the tape to the sides of all your windows, and then press extra hard to make sure it sticks all the way.

Anyway, that's all my brainstorming session produced. Feel free to add your ideas to the thread.

Generator and fuel: City power grid unlikely to still be in one piece.

Satellite internet access: Unless nuclear winter blocks out the sky, then we're screwed.

Stockpile of gold: Would be hard to buy afterwards. (Wargaming approves of this one the most )(For comedy, please don't ban me)

I'm glad to see someone is thinking of the logistics.

I don't need to do any of these preparations; the material I ingest on a daily basis is so unhealthy I'm probably already immune to radioactivity. Plus the saltiness I see in WoWS and other online games has hardened my eyes to the point of being able to withstand a nuclear flash.

I technically don't even need to play warships to get enjoyment out of it, I've played so many battles I can reenact alot of them if I close my eyes. It's actually fairly enjoyable.

Hahaha.

You laugh but it got me through the boredom involved with the NC HS education system.

During the Cold War, we found out what the REAL Russian Civil Defense plan was in case of a Nuclear War.

..

In case of Nuclear War, cover yourself with a bed sheet and walk slowly towards the cemetery.

SLOWLY..  as not to create a panic.

Just lean a door against the wall, put a mattress on the outside & hide in the gap, everything will be fine :)

Bring a sack of potatoes into your bunker. When the rads hit them, they become sentient and you can sweep the remaining 23 players in the world every time.

Step 1: Invite all good friends/forumites.

Step 2: Find WG's data server bunkers around the world.

Step 3: Buy so much Atagos, Tirpitzs, Kutuzovs and Hoods that WG cannot refuse an house party.

Step 4: Pack the basements with Salt, Potatoes and Tomatoes, other favorite foods are optional.

Step 5: Enjoy the no lag gaming experience (since PCs are directly tapped into the server)!(while the rest of the world burns in nuclear inferno)

How far down the rabbit hole do you wanna go?

Gas generator with gas (i have 50 gals of empty cans). If you run out of gas, you can MacGyver it to run off of smoke from burning wood.

Small solar panels kits are inexpensive,  but they really only charge laptops and such. Might be perfect if you play a laptop, but you could also charge a battery backup surge protector for an hr or so game play.

Requires a power inverter, but you could daisy chain car batteries together and run your cp. When those run out, you could attach a car alternator to some sort of fan and let the wind charge. Alternatively a bicycle would be easy to add an alternator.

For the record, my area has be hit by hurricanes. Wulf doesn't let his family down.

If you're close enough to the radiation, there's nothing you can really do unless you're a member of the government with access to bunkers. Regardless, if it's big enough it'll cloud the sun a kill the surface anyways. :red_button: :P

It's simple.

You gather a group of armed thugs, set up a survivor colony someplace with a functional (or repairable) coal-fired power station.

You send your scavengers out to find suitable hardware that wasn't fried by EMP. You rig as many as you can together with a LAN.

In the meantime, you find a surviving aircraft and a pilot, and go grab the NA server.

Newcomers are enslaved by your thugs to dig coal and raise food, except those that are or can become decent WoWS players, they are supported by the rest, and have first dibs (after you and the thugs of course) on scavenged luxury items.

The internet was designed so we could communicate in the event of a nuclear holocaust. No real reason to be worried that WoWs will go down.
