Hello all,

A little while ago I saw that the Atlanta was on the store for $30, plus like 1000 doubloons (or something like that).

I am curious as to everyones thoughts on the Atlanta right now. I have seen in previous forum threads that people don't really like her due to a number of factors (armor, guns, HP, etc).

But those posts were a bit old, so I am curious as to what people think of her as of 0.6.3.

Or should I go for the 30 days of premium for$25? For the grind it seems like premium would be better.

Thanks,

Viper

Atlanta is a squishy 'niche' ship thats fun to play once in awhile.  I do not recommend her for more than one match per day.   You either hide, use other's smoke, or pray you dont get focused on.  When all goes well, the Atlanta makes you feel like you brought a machine gun to a knife fight.  The truth is... you have very little situational control with her and are dependent too much on fate.   For anyone with 0-2 premiums I'd vote NAY on atlanta.  If you have a collection, I'd give it a YEA.

I play the Atlanta just because I like the Marblehead and dont play the American Cruiser line... so it helps me gain more commander points for my Marblehead.

She's not changed.  I like them on the enemy team, not so much on my own.

Feast or famine ship.  Have games where you are not targeted or set up behind island and the enemy comes to you, and you are raining a stream of fire on them.  Other games, quickly deleated, just about any shell coming your direction if it hits will do damage.  Can be fun, but is you want a fragile light cruiser, get the Belfast, smoke makes a huge difference and while no torps, the torps on the Atlanta are so short ranged that rarely have opportunity to use

Atlanta is one of the premiums I decided to keep. You need the right map for her. Something with lots of islands to hide behind. You also need to be in a super alert mental state because anything can delete you.

I mostly play WOWS late at night before bed time and sometimes take the Atlanta into a coop game for the pure joy of burning bots down to the waterline.

The Scharn is a far netter investment. Ditto Belfast.

My first premium and still has the honor of being my most played ship. She boosted many a captain for the US line and is hard or expert to play. When you get the jist of how she works you can accomplish some great things with her. I collect all of the ships I can, and have 144 right now and 40 more slots to fill. I say get them all and once you have them all go back to the ones you do good with. Have fun and always buy the premiums with the time and doubloons it's worth it.

I have seen the Atlanta perform like a boss... but sadly most of the ones I have seen (Including mine) get popped rather quickly once spotted.  I would recommend the Belfast if you haven't purchased it yet.

It's a paypal thing. It has that "available for you: 1" on it.

Have the Scharn, absolutely love that thing.

It's one of my favorites in Co-op.  RoF is awesome fun.  Totally worth it to me just to bust dumb bots up.

Quite situational in Random.  Put AA module on mine.  Great when there is a carrier and many BBs you can escort.  Use islands, a lot.  Agreesive play will get you killed quick.  If shooting will get you detected, fire only when you have an escape route or cover.  Play it like a big slow DD, and hide often.  You're often at the whim of matchmaking.  So, feast or famine regardless.

Summary: Buy the Atlanta for fun, NOT competitiveness.

The Atlanta is a wrecker when she's played properly. a wreck when you don't play to her strengths.

That's true of pretty much any ship in the game, but Atlanta takes that axiom and elevates it to a religious dogma.

Learn how to dance with the girl- and she'll give you the best battles in the game.

Until I learned to play to her strengths, I regularly got my head handed to me in a paper bag.  And after learning to dance, Atlanta and I have even managed to kill a North Carolina and seriously annoy an Iowa (he had less than 1000 HP left when he finally got us).

But never once did I regret spending the money to get her.

There it is and well said! She has a steep learning curve but once you get the hang of how to drive her, she'll reward you.

Hint: HEAP + DE works great in the 'Lanta.

The 'Lanta was my first premium ship and my most loved.  I think I'll be buried in her so she can let me down one last time.

But, seriously, a properly spec'ed out and captain'ed Atlanta is a dangerous opponent.  Properly played, she will rule the match.  I don't know of any other ship that gets a consistent "Kill the XYZ first" comment in team chat.

Some people say to play her like a big DD with a citadel.  There is some truth to that, but doing that will only get you so far.  You're not fast enough to run away when things get nasty and your torps aren't worth much unless you can ambush somebody around a corner.

Instead, I recommend you play her like the support cruiser she is.  Stay near your heavies and keep an eye out for DD and pesky aircraft.  Swat as necessary.  Rinse, wash and repeat.  If you start taking fire from heavies, stop shooting your guns and edge away so you drop off visibility.  Come back in when they've shifted the fire to a heavy.

If you do buy the Atlanta, understand, she's not a glitzy, glorious ship.  She's not going to farm damage and print Krakens.  Sometimes it will happen, but trying for it usually ends up on the bottom.  Love her for the niche ship she is and remember she's for support and you'll have a lot of fun with her.

I purchased it back 2 months ago when it was $45 and you get 30 days premium. I must say I played it and its lots of fun, HOWEVER, you can do very little with it, and if the map has high islands or no islands, you are screwed.

Its a great ship, but at this point in the game, IMO, its not worth the $$$. Better go for the Belfast or Sharn, much much better ships IMO. If you need a US Cap trainer, then ATL would do it, but it will take a while since playing that ship is very very very different than any OTHER ship, period.

If you buy it, be prepared to invest time before becoming proficient.  Have a dedicated captain.  Atlanta is made or broken by captain skills, moreso than any other ship.

I would rather win it in a supercontainer, looks fun but it's not a competitive ship without a division.  Players have gotten way better at it over the year and a half for sure.

I say belfast and fiji make her kinda obsolete in and around caps, she is a good earner mind even with bad games, but her gun arcs 10km+ are a joke you need to zoom out to see the target you have to lead by so much.

I say Save your money for hood or something

Very situational...but can be hilariously fun. I don't play her that often, because she needs her own dedicated captain and I don't want to start over on a new one.

Marginally fun ship. Coming around an island and surprising a DD...priceless. The rest of the time you get focused on and deleted. It requires a high skilled captain to do well(as in you, not the in-game captain). I say nay.
