The WHO (no, not Tommy's WHO) has classified video gaming as a mental disorder

the World Health Organization also refers to Gaming Disorder as “recurrent gaming behavior”. Interestingly enough, the whole concept of playing video games is to do so in a recurring manner, although never in an excessive capacity. There is a severe lack of understanding of how video games work, by the look of things.

"Or as they're known in Glasgow, who?" =P

But I do wonder if anyone actually listens to what the WHO says, or if they just say stupid stuff to grab some attention for a little bit.

Misleading article is misleading.

Clearly the WHO is just relabeling "XXXXXX addiction". They actually use the exact same wording for "gambling disorder". They just find/replace gambling for gaming.

Hey... they have to do something to remain topical and obtain further funding from governments around the world, right?

It's called Obsessive/Compulsive behavior, and it's a common issue in today's society....

You aren't born into apathy.... Be obsessed, nothing else can make you great.

It's not obsession in and of itself that is the issue, it's the level and focus.....

The media just don't know how the internet really works because they are to busy choking on Twitter cancer.

Video games are only bad for an individual when someone messed up in the head thinks there last game of COD is acceptable behavior in real life. That affects, what, 2 people who play a game, per that game? I doubt there is a mass influx of people playing first person shooters who get "mentally corrupted" from it and decide to beat the snot out of someone. Nice try for them to label the chronic Pong player as the "Next Great American School Shooter."

Fake news indeed.

Remember the lawsuit against Bethesda for "making Fallout too addictive"?

The guy lost his girlfriend, his job, and his house because he never learned to sort out his priorities, and somehow decided that was Bethesda's fault.

Ain't First World Problems great.  Glad the WHO has Zika, SARS, Ebola, Malaria, ect all taken care of.

Gaming can be an addiction like anything else.  Some people can't handle it and their loved ones are at a loss on helping them.

I am so NOT spoiled omg you don't even know me! Between school, fencing, and cheer squad I work my butt off. My Dad worked hard for all the money we have and didn't blow it like my Uncle Alex who went to jail for not co-operating with the Feds or my ex BFF Mandy who can't even get a job babysitting because she buys clothes from TJ MAXX.
