Since the patch I haven't played a whole heap, but I have been playing the Ishizuchi the most of my ships. That patch changed a lot of ships to have longer gun ranges. The Ishizuchi and South Carolina were probably the ships that got the largest buff to their gun ranges. Ishizuchi used to have a pretty poor gun range of only 12.9 km, yet a detection range several kilometers beyond that. I think it was just over 16 km. Now the ship fires out to 15.3 km, and detection range almost exactly the same range at 15.2 km. It plays like a normal ship now instead of a ship with one hand tied behind its back. I would occasionally play the Ishizuchi, but doing well was rare, and my minimum of sinking 1 ship per game to break even was actually not always possible. However, now that feels like nothing out of the ordinary since it seems to be a proper, balanced ship. However, it still has it's quirks. It is a fast ship, but has the thin armor of a battlecruiser, just like the Kongo. That makes sense, as the Ishizuchi is actually a Kongo with a different set of guns and no modernization to have proper AA guns. They're only 12-inch guns, so sinking enemy battleships will be a problem. Go for the cruisers, and run from enemy battleships. It also has really powerful HE rounds, so go ahead and try sinking DD's and cruisers with HE. Overall I think my choice between either an Ishizuchi or a Myogi at Teir-4 for Japan battleships will definitely be the Ishizuchi.

That said, Myogi's guns hit like trucks at Tier IV, and thus a well play Myogi can be quite a threat if you know how to aim well.

That said, Ishizuchi I felt was always better even before her recent buffs: Superior Gunnery. Sure, Myogi had more range back then but Myogi suffered from low gun count and some wonky dispersion. The dispersion got much worse as the range got closer. The worst case scenario of a DD getting danger close was that due to how the turrets are placed on the extremes of Myogi, your shells will literally criss cross in front of the DD and completely miss. Not with Ishizuchi. Her turret placement is more conventional and her shells fly quite nicely. Range was the single biggest weakness of Ishizuchi, the patch removed that. Her reliance on HE shells and Fires also means she doesn't really care about well armored ships. Her speed is very fast for Tier IV BBs. The patch also heavily nerfed Tier IV-V CVs, one of the greatest threats to any low tier BB. She is IMO, one of the most powerful ships for Tier IV. The Myogi is still only good for one thing: Being tossed in the trash... Give her Cruiser-like dispersion for her 3 guns, first to improve her pathetic damage, and second, to teach new players how to aim... This would make so much sense. But may start again... I've taken mine out twice. First game was 100,000 damage and a win. Second game was 70,000 and a win.

To be fair, the Nikolai is blatantly OP, and the Arkansas Beta is only available for players who've been around since the Cleveland was the most terrifying ship in the game. They're going to perform better than ships that just anyone can drive.

Because the Ark beta also got a range buff and it still has almost a KM range on Ishizuchi. But the Ishizuchi finally outranges cruisers her tier and 1 tier higher which is a MAJOR improvement since cruisers could easily kite her. Now that option is gone. Yeah that range buff was a MAJOR help and I'm glad it came.

And trust me, I don't get Krakens often, being a solid 50% bastion of mediocrity. So I was pleased with the Zucchini.

350 inktomi19d Members 1,744 posts 8,862 battles Report post #18 Posted April 2, 2017 This is what the Ishi needed. It still has it’s strengths and weaknesses, but now it can shoot things that spot it and shoot at it, where before it was seen from far outside it’s range and most enemies could outrange it. It’s a little funny that it’s gun bloom doesn’t effectively raise it’s spotting range. It’s also a huuuuuuuge help that the Ishi no longer faces CVs which can use their manual attacks. It still has crap AA (does it even have AA?), but it was an easy target for manual drops at point-blank range, and now it’s better able to dodge or at least get hit by fewer torps. Living in a tier where most ships have crap AA but CVs could still drop torps a couple hundred meters away was one of the biggest killers for that ship. Um yea, you got some.. of course it couldn't hit a barrage balloon teathered to it's deck, but it does have some! The Ishi wasn't bad before.. I run close to a 60% win rate in mine, but the extra 2.4 Km gunnery range and reduced surface and air detect range has been a god send. As for dealing with carriers... well yea tier 4 and 5 CV's don't have manual drops but they do drop considerably closer so they're still going to do a number on you.. Love my Ishi!
