At a Sonic!

Melbourne is cool, the Airport is right in the middle of town which means there is no poor place to watch the show.

Gonna set myself up better tomorrow and get some better video.

[edited]loud tho...

I've been to several Air shows but the coolest thing I've ever seen flying over head was a B2 hooked up to a refueling tanker. The next coolest thing I've seen was 4 A-10 doing low level flights just above tree level.

Damn that beats the best aircraft even I've ever seen in the wild. I once saw 3 F-16s and a tanker flying around. 2 were in a holding pattern and 1 was tanking. I have also seen a B-1B Lancher fly over my old house twice. Maine has an air refueling wing in the Air Guard (the 101st) and I'm pretty sure the B-1B was actually enroute to an airshow, and then returning to it's station since the times I saw it were like 2 days prior to and the day after the air show.

Was stationed near Davis-Mothan in Arizona, went out there to watch them train a couple times(a-10s) and It was impressive. As is seeing C-5s do low level training, it just looks like they are going g to fall to earth.

I've seen several C-130s down low and you wonder how they keep something so big moving so slow in the air.

I've also seen Blackhawks, Chinooks, a B1B, F16s and F15, I might have seen a Nighthawk once but I'm not certain.

Watched the Concord land in Tucson once, very cool.

Also once got to look at the crash site of an F-4 that flew into the ground while on approach to Luke Air Force Base.

Was only doing about 90 knots when it hit but crash site still covered miles.

Seen lots of B-52's at Davis Monthan

I'm nowhere near any AFB, so the coolest thing I've ever seen is an An-124 landing at my local airport, got to the Snowbirds and the Blue Angles (kinda) though.

Right next door in Sierra Vista is Ft Huachuca, lots of cool Drones out there. Border Patrol has a Group of Predators also and the Army tests any new platform. Spent a lot of time there, not a lot to do and Davis-M is one of the few things. Kuwait/Saudi fly out there all the time in their F16s and they do some cool stuff.

Join the US Navy and tell them you want to work with jets. Do time on a CV. As a young airdale, I would tell you without lieing, a diamond is not the hardest thing on earth.

They were doing some pretty cool stuff, I have more but it's kinda hard to see what's going on and I am far from a professional camera man. That was just the loudest one I captured. When I pass out tonight bill upload some more...

I've seen them out in the Superstition mountain range, out where the dirt bike trailers park, near Four Peaks... I was about halfway up on a very foggy day... an a F16 came whipping round the mountain peaks... just below the fog... spectacular.

Use to get AH64 helicopters hunting me in the deserts out there too, as they flew out of Mesa for test purposes... best time was just about dark... they'd be using their FLIR and infrared, you could tell, following my tracks...

Good times... Arizona's in my blood.

When I did Predator School we did, it was...A bit creepy when you really think about it. We would track Civilian Cars and track people for training purposes, a lot of looking for Illegals and a lot of monitoring the Civilians out there playing Border Patrol.

Sedona is without a doubt one of my favorite places in America, cool energy and other worldly beautiful. Sierra Vista? Not so much.

Now THAT is pretty awesome! =D

Coolest plane I've ever had fly over me was during the Reading PA airshow a couple years back. Had the B-29 bomber "FIFI" fly right over top of us, managed to get some AWESOME photos of her.

Below: Never before seen photos of "FIFI" in flight. These were actually taken by me. I am NOT a professional photoagrapher either, but I am pretty happy with how these came out. :)

Warning, large photos ahead!

Sedona got a bit auhmn.... pricey for most of us. ;-) I always liked Payson, Strawberry those areas to the East/Northeast... great thing about the valley tho'... in under an hour you could go from desert to nearly 7000' elevation, very nice in winter with a Jeep. Went out to Potato Lake once in the winter - a foot and a half of snow on the ground. Was awesomeness. Want some ocean? About five hours and you're standing on the Pacific Ocean beaches in California. Heck, I used to know folks who would head to Baja with their dirtbikes for weekend outings.

Arizona is an amazing, amazing place...

And as to the military stuff yeah... makes sense... why practice on your own troops when you got civilians in need? :-)
