I have that thought myself many times (being a below avg. damage player) . Pondering it I have a tentative belief that it is the amount of defense ribbons ; the more I have gotten the better the base xp .

That's quite a lot of planes shot down. 40 plane kills rewards as much exp as if you destroyed the carrier launching those planes, right? Also, you've got a couple cap defence and cap capture ribbons, so I guess that contributed slightly.

Yeah I did get some stuff here and there, but I would not have expected it to give me such a high score. I barely got a third of a cap, got almost a full solo cap defense (though defense points don't give as much from, based from experience but I could be wrong), and I shot down tier 7 aircraft while I myself was a tier 8 ship (so reduced return). And 10k damage to a Fletcher is slightly over half damage to a tier 9 ship. 

 

Anyways, was a nice treat at the end of the game after thinking that I hardly did anything.

By the looks of it  Maybe because I was a BB so cap points and defense points are weighted more? Who knows.

That's a lot of planes shot down. Also, I think bbs get some sort of cap xp bonus, which helps.

10K damage on a T9 DD.

Five defense ribbons.

33 planes shot down.

One capture assist.

 

As for the DD, remember XP isn't just about the amount of HP damage, but the quality as well.  Taking out the lion's share of a DD HP pool gives similar XP as taking out a similar percentage of a BB's HP pool.
