Is this the start of some weird scify anime movie because this feels like the set up for a weird scify anime?

The Hunt For The Singularity? A.I. is a long, long, long way off! The AI we do have is software based and far from being able to think for itself! A.I. is going to be century's if not millennia away from ever becoming a sentient being. I'm talking about true A.I., like you see in the Matrix or Terminator flicks, it's not gonna happen in our life time, or the next few hundred life times...

That is unless there is something their not telling us?:sceptic:

The Navy has the right idea for once in that AI will be the doom of us all.

Ok let's deal with hard facts such as Ai if it's advanced enough is like a child you teach it to do wrong that's what they will do, but teach it good morals then it will do good and considering how respectful and honorable Japanese are and that they are leading the world in Ai development I would say we are safe because the more hostile a culture s the less likely they will have people smart enough to create and effective Ai program. I would say some humans are a bigger threat than the Ai.

The only Ai that threatens you is Sci Fi movies and your video game Ai that beat your scores lol.

For the most part, AI is the hot word in the tech world these days.  Major AI race with Google, Facebook, Microsoft, IBM, and Amazon contending.  Japanese are not even in the game.  Even major banks are researching into AI, as it can be used to analyze lots of data quickly and more efficiently and spot discrepancies and flag accounts.

I would say Google is leading the group with its DeepMind project, with its success against Go players and has also scored some medical applications in the UK.  And of course there is IBM with its Deep Blue that has beaten the world's top chess players.  But Go is far more intuitive, and Deep Mind is capable of deep learning --- meaning it gets better as it literally learns from playing with other Go players, other computers and against itself.  Its next goal is to try another game, and the developers are looking at Starcraft.

AI is getting into commercial cloud applications.  Even nVidia are selling racks with dedicated massively parallel processing units based on their GPUs that are intended for AI.  And yes, its a deep learning unit.
