CV play is exhausting but fun

  • You need to play a total of 10 battles to post in this section.

I just recently graduated from Lexington to Essex and realized that after each match so far i am completely exhausted and have to take a breather.

My first 6 games took some getting used to as I lost track of my extra squadron of planes several times, as i had gotten used to just 4 on Lexington.

The next 6 games i had gotten a slightly better grasp of it and started to get my planes more under control.

But during that span i had to face most likely 6 very good Taiho captains, I assumed as they all had achieved Rank1.

This would be the exhausting part, as it took everything i had in each match to keep the damage to a minimum of 1 lost ship per match and manage to take down 27-37 of their planes in the process.

But the Best part I found to be very satisfying was the potential damage upon spotting and actual damage done, etc etc  was better than i thought it be.

At least 4 of those last 6 matches my team did at least 75% of the potential damage upon spotting like one match i recall they did 230k out of a potential of 350k roughly and I work hard to spot for my team as much as i can so way to go team.

But yeah when you new to a ship and all you get is seasoned pros that can run you ragged trying to keep up with their every move and then trying to counter all those moves it tends to leave one exhausted.

But even after one of these matches it is still some of the most fun i have had playing a warship version of chess.

Brave, brave CV driver... Good going to be so persistent.

I've effectively given up on CVs and only drive them in co-op now... :(

I once had a dream that I had an automobile tail-pipe in my mouth.

I woke up exhausted.

...

Yes.  CV battles start out before the battle begins, feverishly scanning the enemy ships.  Who has the good AA, and who can be clubbed.  Look at the enemy CV numbers and determine what is their hull and load-out.  All this while the other players run to the bathroom and wait for the game to load.

Game Loads:

1) set evasive autopilot for the ship -- zig zag across the map, look where the heavier, slower ships will congregate and take station behind there.

2) set the scouting locations on the map depending on enemy disposition, caps, in front of your DDs so they don't get surprised.

3) MISSION STARTS.

4) gather intel for your team where the enemy is moving to

5) spot any eager enemy DDs and hit the 'F3' on them.  Once that (focus) number hits 8, they usually turn around and run.

6) Decide your first target, gather your strike force....

and this is where your battle starts.

The one situation in the game that really stresses me out is when i have 2 dd spotted for my team with my fighters and my team is working them over but no fast enough.  At the same time the enemy CV strike force is on its way to do some major hurt on someone.  So i find myself caught between do i recall my fighters and loose the chance of the team killing 1 or 2 DD, or do i stay with the DD and take the chance my team can handle the strike with group AA?   Also lets say you do not have empty bombers for spotters at this moment in time otherwise id spot dd with them.

For me when I get to the Essex I plan on using my fighters as a CAP and escort for my bombers so that they don't get overpowered by the Taiho's, You only have one group which isnt too effective for protecting ships but it can help keep your planes alive for sure.

My Essex hasn't had a captain in it for well over a year.  Shame too since it was my first T9.

The only time I feel obligated to protect my team mates from enemy strike aircraft is when I'm AS spec.  And I'm NEVER AS spec.

My fighters are for shooting down enemy fighters that threaten my strike aircraft.  Only when I'm reasonable sure that there are no enemy fighters will I hunt down enemy strike aircraft.  RELENTLESSLY.

I've BEEN the CV with all his aircraft chewed up and gone.  I HATE that, but I LOVE dishing that out, particularly when I can do it without specing AS so that, once I OWN the sky, my strike aircraft can dole out the hurt

Glad you're enjoying Essex, I'm on my way to it and very excited! I get the feeling its the closest of any tier (maybe except T6) to rival the IJN counterpart, and I believe I can make it work.

I'll preface my comments by saying that I usually play a balanced loadout.

IMO my fighter's primary job is to take out enemy (carrier based) fighters, because they are the biggest threat to my strike aircraft, and I only have a limited supply of those.

My fighters secondary job is to take out enemy strike aircraft.  If I can "de-fang the snake" then the enemy carrier is as good as sunk even if it isn't.

Once I'm sure all enemy (carrier based) fighters & attack aircraft are shot down, THEN I'll think about loitering over enemy destroyers.

If your attack aircraft have dropped their load (Hu hu, "load"...) then they should be hauling a$$ back to the carrier to get reloaded for another sortie.
