8 Adm_SkrewKaYuka Members 3 posts 1,237 battles Report post #1 Posted March 15, 2017 I have been "off" online gaming for a while. I had a brief comeback with TitanFall 2 and BF1, but was soon bored. I've been aware of this game for a long time. Finally decided to install and try it. And I am really enjoying it so far. I am only using up to level lV as of yet. So much to do in this game, almost gave up at first, but now that I am almost aware of what I am doing it is very enjoyable. See you on the high seas! Don't be in a big hurry to advance in the game levels or to climb the various ship tech trees. That was my biggest mistake when first starting out. I'd only been playing the game 2 days to make it to level ten without learning how to use the goodies that come with each new level. For me it was just a shot 'em up arcade game and I had a lot of catching up to do. However it is much, much more where strategy and tactics and proper resource management are prime ingredients of the game.

Remember to watch the mini map, change course and speed and use AP on board side ships at the water line. Don't get lost or sail alone, don't hug islands to close, don't show your broad side, push with your team, don't hang back in sniper mode and Have fun. Smoke on the water is dangerous, avoid friendly fire and don't feed the trolls. For any thing else use search or just ask. The Sinksalot Fleet salutes you, See you top side. I started playing in open beta and found the game much more enjoyable once I reconfigured the steering and engines to use the Up (forward), down (Reverse, breaking), left and right keys. Some of the basics I wish I had known from day 1 are:1) Angling your ships to minimize incoming shell damage2) Understanding HE verses AP shells and when to use them3) Understanding the different battle modes and the maps.4) Properly equipping your ships with upgrades and captain skills. All of the above info can be found in forums tutorials. Do some experimenting in Co-op battles and when you're ready try it out in Random. Also, keep in mind that there's more than one style of playing for each ship type and your not obligated to run every type of ship under the sun. Not everyone plays CVs, DDs, etc. It's much more fun to master a few ships than trying to play as many ships as possible.

Make them work for the drop angle and in the process you eliminate more of their planes.
1,971 STINKWEED_ Members 3,327 posts 16,583 battles Report post #12 Posted March 15, 2017 I forgot a biggie! 5) Always turn into the torpedoes when you detect them coming at you and not away. With your nose towards the incoming torps you will minimize the damage (less will make impact) and if your really lucky you might be able to steer between them. And take Pushn's advise, sail away from torp bombers. :-)
59 [WOLF9] LabradorRetriever Beta Testers 396 posts 19,544 battles Report post #13 Posted March 15, 2017 Same thoughts as someone else that has posted before. Maybe try 2-3 different lines of ships up to tier 5-6. Then decide which one you want to deep dive into. Jump into the other forums and search for info on the upcoming ships in that line. (Don't know if you will face credit issues though, just a warning..) You may encounter ships that are a little harder to play or different style to the previous one in the ship line. 8 Adm_SkrewKaYuka Members 3 posts 1,237 battles Report post #14 Posted March 16, 2017 Wow, thank you for all the great advice. I have the most trouble with torps. Aiming them, and making sure no friendlies are in the area. I got "pink flagged" for accidentally sinking a teammate. But I cleaned that up quickly. I am enjoying level lll quite a lot. I will take the advice and not be in a hurry to climb to the top. I have only played a few random battles w/o bots. I need A LOT more experience before advancing much more. A lot of carriers and action but still playable. Once you get there, T7-8 will be fun as well but a lot more competitive. T9-10? Well that's a whole other animal. 1,971 STINKWEED_ Members 3,327 posts 16,583 battles Report post #16 Posted March 16, 2017 Once you are comfortable with tier 4-6 I recommend you get yourself a mid tier premium ship. They are great credit and free xp producers. I like the Texas and Kamikazi and Graf Spee. You can average over 200k credits per battle once you've mastered those ships and you'll never have to worry about falling short on credits (until you get to tier 9)
26 Delta7Xx Members 82 posts 2,913 battles Report post #17 Posted March 25, 2017 general tips for ship classes... cruisers: fire AP at broadside enemy cruisers, spam HE at just about everything else. avoid giving your side armor to enemy cruisers and battleships where possible. destroyers: fire torpedoes in narrow spreads, one salvo along the enemy's current path, one behind it so that they still get torped if they turn into your first spread. also, never underestimate the usefulness of a smokescreen as cover for when you wanna use your guns, but beware of enemy torps in a smoke screen. battleships: prioritize enemy ships who are exposing their sides to you, fire mainly AP, and don't be afraid to be somewhat aggressive so long as you have some team support. also, be on the lookout for enemy ships capable of launching torpedoes.
