Here's the least we can do for Hipper/Prinz Eugen: reduce reload by 1 second.

Fast reload was a German priority, with their fixed ammunition incorporating the propulsive charge right into the main shell. This simplified and expedited the reload process appreciably. With IFHE buffing Russian cruisers and a few other select ships, and upper-tier American cruisers getting a reload buff, Prinz Eugen is now powercreeped a bit by the competition in a meta that rewards fast rate of fire vs. heavier-hitting shells. Decrease its reload by 1 second and I think it'll be slightly more balanced against the power creep elsewhere at T8-10. Personally I'd rather see all T8 cruisers also get heal when they're bottom tier, but that's probably asking too much of Wargaming at this juncture. A 1 second faster reload won't fix the situation completely but it will deal with the additional imbalance that has resulted from recent changes elsewhere that have favored other ships but not Hipper & Prinz Eugen.

I think Prinz Eugen needs a repair party, and I've said it since I bought it at launch. People claim the commander XP boost is enough, but that still doesn't help a (what I consider) ship that is underpowered.

I think Eugen just needs Radar or something like that. This would make her a unique ship in the german line. But right now she is still usable, she just wants to be taken care of. Forget her and she will punish you.

I think we're getting away from my goal with the thread, which was to highlight that recent changes to the game have exacerbated the relative weakness of Hipper & Prinz Eugen by benefiting RU & US cruisers but not German (and IJN too). Then again I guess I invited that by bringing up repair.

As much as I want to love Hipper and Eugen for their history, I found them to be plain flat underperforming and a total chore to grind.  The Roon, on the other hand, is absolutely lethal and a massive upgrade from the Hipper. I absolutely love the Roon as it is everything the Hipper/Eugen SHOULD be.  Please, WG, make the Hipper/Eugen great again! ™

Not a bad suggestion, but here's the problem.

 

Admiral Hipper and Prinz Eugen aren't Russian.

 

Therefore if they get any kind of performance buff such as an increase in rate of fire, they have to take a matching decrease in power elsewhere, such as fire chance or shell damage (or both).

 

Only Russian ships get to be buffed with no nerf in another area.

I'm sure alot of people will say "but it's fine," as much as I like Hipper..or try to, I do find her damage output simply lacking. My Mogami and Takao leave it in the dust and with the little boost the N.O recently got even that outdoes it. +1 for some faster main gun reload.

Well, the Hipper and Prinz Eugen have a lot going for them that the USN cruisers don't: much flatter shell arcs, four torpedo launchers with good firing angles, ridiculously good Hydro, and better AA at usable ranges than New Orleans. New Orleans got the reload buff because she frankly badly badly needed it. Now I find she's in a very good spot.

 

But I do agree that those two ships should get a small reload buff to 12 seconds to match the New Orleans since it only has 8 guns to NO's 9.

My main goal with the Nikolai thread actually started as a request for a Russian battleship subforum, so we can get started discussing the tree that could be released within the next year. It ended up sprouting a second leaf which was definitely worth pursuing for just a moment anyway. I prefer my sarcasm as dry as possible. Don't mind the spill of kappaccino. ;) 

 

My Hipper/Prinz Eugen suggestion is however completely serious.

Thing with the AA and/or Hydro is the consumable choice. A New Orleans can run Radar and Def Fire. Prinz yeugen can only run Def Fire OR Hydro. AA Duties without Defensive Fire is impossible. The New Orleans gets at least some flexibility. I would trade my fighter aircraft for Hydro any day since the AA alone is strong enough with the modules and DF.

Needs alot more then a second. Should be 3 seconds. That way even if you have to angle, your 4 guns that can fire... Don't feel so gimp.

I've found the hipper to be wonderful at anti cruiser ambush, and use that AP on BBs. It is not an easy ship to learn but it has a forever place in my port.

I like the flavor of KM CAs, their primary issue is how situational the primary weapons of those ships are. The AP needs to be more useful in situations when you don't have an enemy ship sitting broadside. They have good AP alpha and a decent rod the shells just need a little help penetrating angled targets or some more Krupp to power through those belts.

Absolutely agree. PE (and Hipper) are great BB escorts and are lethal to other CL/CA's, and to BB's. They are not good DD hunters, mainly because of reload time and German HE.  Yesterday, I hit a Khabarovsk 14 times with HE, and did only 7.5k damage. 14 HE shells from Atago would have killed 2 Khab's.

And what makes you say that? Because she's very similar to Hipper?

Frankly I bought Prinz Eugen because I wanted Admiral Hipper for being the same class as Prinz Eugen in history, and just buying it spared me the hellgrind that is German cruisers.
