Build Your Own Ognevoi

So with the Ognevoi becoming a viable option besides the #1 Benson, what is your build/planned build?

 

For Upgrades:

MAM 1

MBM 2 (undecided, either you turn your turrets faster with a bit slower reloading, or less dispense/faster torp tubes)

PM 1

PM 2

CSM 1

 

Captain (Total 15-16 pts without investing Dragon Flags)

 

I want to keep the captain skills at a total of 15,16 which is attainable for the "Weekend Warriors" audiences. I have 180x Dragon Flags except I use them on my Tier 8 Benson and since it is my go-to with 58% win rate after ~175 games with no free xp invested.

 

The bread & butter:

PM (1 pt)

LS (2 pts)

BFT (3 pts)

CE (4 pts)

 

Sniping upgrade

+ Adrenaline Rush (2 pts)

+ AFT (4 pts)

 

Knife fighting upgrade:

+ Survival Expert (3 pts)

+ DE (3 pts)

 

Alternative knife fighting upgrade:

+ Adrenaline Rush (2 pts)

+ DE (3 pts)

For captain skills I would suggest this:

1) Preventative Maintenance

2) Last Stand, Adrenaline Rush

3) Basic Firing Training, Survivability Expert

4) Advanced Firing Training, Concealment Expert

 

The Ognevoi does not have the blistering fast speed of the high tier DDs (Leningrad, Minsk, Kiev, Udaloi, Taskent, Khabarosk) of 40+ knots so less able to speed dodge so it is better to increase the range.

 

This will give allow you to contest caps, put the hurt on any ship, and knife fight when needed.

Don't you think Survivability Expert would cancel Adrenaline Rush it out?

 

Moreover, Benson is still the #1 choice for most veteran Tier 8 DD players, if I have 100 Dragon Flags I would put all 100 on my Benson to get it up to 19 Capt pts.

 

If you have only 15, 16 points to select 2 skills out of Adrenaline Rush/Survivability Expert/Advanced Firing Training, which 2 would you pick? And what are the synergies among different combinations?

Survivability Expert has no effect on how Adrenaline Rush works as Adrenaline Rush is based on percentage of health remaining, not by amount. Just to illustrate:

With SE

Full Health: 18,900

50% Health: 9,450

25% Health: 4,725

1% Health:  189

 

Without SE:

Full Health: 16,100

50% Health: 8,050

25% Health: 4,025

1% Health: 161

 

What survivability expert does is lets you have more health while having the same effect with adrenaline rush.

 

For order of skill selection, here's what I would do:

1) Preventative Maintenance

2) Last Stand

3) Basic Firing Training

4) Advanced Firing Training

5) Concealment Expert

6) Survivability Expert

7) Adrenaline Rush

 

As for Benson being considered superior, I could write a whole new post about why I feel Ognevoi is better than Benson so I won't go into that now. USN destroyers, Benson included just feel limited in their abilities to me. If you want to discuss that later, let me know.

Right... let say you knife fight a guy, and you take 1188 damage:

 

With SE

Full Health: 18,900

After being hit: 17712

Health Percentage: 93.7%

 

Without SE:

Full Health: 16,100

After being hit: 14912

Health Percentage: 92.6%

 

With SE, you now have more health by percentage after being hit by the same guy. and hence AR is less effective, right?

Yes, but you are focusing here on amount of damage versus percentage. Think of it this way. With AR effectiveness based on health percentage, you can have more health for the same effective percentage of health due to AR.

 

93.7% of 18,900 = 17,709.3

93.7% of 16,100 = 15,085.7

17,709 - 15,086 = 2,623 more health for the same increase in effectiveness of AR

 

92.6% of 18,900 = 17,501.4

92.6% of 16,100 = 14,908.6

17,501 - 14,909 = 2,592 more health for the same increase in effectiveness of AR

 

So as illustrated for the same effective percentage of AR, with SE you'll always have more health leftover allowing you to survive that much more.
