In case anyone hasn't seen the front page article, it's pronounced "Oh-hoyt-nick"

I'm definitely buying this glorious exercise in absurdity.  Might even drag myself away from Breath of the Wild to play it for a bit...

Edit:  Possibly a redundant post.  Got ninja'd while trying to get my phone to cooperate. :fishpalm:

How many T5 Russian premiums do we need?

Would have been nice to see this buffed or nerfed to slide into T6 or T4, respectively, just for variety's sake.

Man, it feels like the turnaround between CCs posting reviews and the ships being up for sale has gotten way shorter. Mouse put up her Okhotnik review only 5 days ago.

I only mention this because the 'Bama reviews went up 2 days ago...so maybe next week, WG?

Your pronunciation is off, It's.....

"ah-kh-hoe-t-nik"

Okhotnik

The first O is unstressed and sounds like a soft A as in ah.

Kh is a guttural sound kind of like "ch" in the German word "ach"

The second O is stressed and makes a hard sound, and when combined with the trailing end of Kh, sounds like the English word "hoe" + the letter T to complete the syllable

The rest of the word is fairly self explanatory

*edit

Thanks for the clarification.  I was just going by the end of the URL, but this makes more sense.

Oh lol, I didn't even see the URL.  In this case I am fairly certain the URL guy is wrong, unless they pronounce "охотник" different in St. Petersburg than they do in the rest of the country.

What's good for DDs isn't good for CLs, makes a lot of sense.

Getting a little tired of Russian premiums.

Normally I would agree with you, but this one isn't the typical DD...

It's what I dub an "oddball".  It could be more "Oddball" if it had say cruiser HPs and a worse detectability but it's close enough to a CL/DD hybrid.

It's odd enough that I wanted it after basic info started trickling down on the forum.

I just bought it, but waiting on a YouTube video to finish before testing it.  Unfortunately I won't be playing her lots this month because of the current mission requiring (as usual) T6+

But it's turn will come !

Just seems to me this ship has the specs for "terrible" written all over it.

Long and slow DD

Very slow turning turrets (Furutaka style slow)

Will easily out turn its turrets/aim

Very short range guns for its tier (will often see tier 6 and 7)

Short range torpedoes

Decent detection range but nothing to write home about

You have to ambush ppl with that one.  I don't think I'm going to have much (if any) battles survived with that one.

But that Alpha damage with her torps is amazing... assuming you're within 4.5km range.

I think it's supposed to be played kind of like a sleeker, higher tier Tenryu. But, you're right - I don't know that it isn't going to be torn to pieces at tier 5.

With this i can agree. Seems the only viable way to play this ship will be the ambush/kamikaze style.

I usually scoop up every premium as soon as they come out, but this one has too many similarities to the Krispy Kreme as far as its weaknesses are concerned. That's the only premium ship I regret buying and it looks like this DD could be the 2nd.

I'll probably end up buying it anyway, but will wait a few days at least to see what others have to say about it.

$15?

Yuuuup.

Even with CAD weakness for the last week and staying on the floor not getting up, it still only cost 20$... A very good purchase indeed.

They even have a mission for Commander XP when you score top 5.  So with dragon flag, XP flag, Commander XP flag (and camo if you want to go over the top) now is the time to get that 15 point captain (PT/PM/LS/TAE/AFT or CE).

I couldn't help but laugh at the review on the global wiki on this one.

Who writes this stuff? The grammar is comedy! :D

Okhotnik is a Tier V Soviet destroyer that is the living embodiment of the phrase "anything worth doing is worth overdoing". She features seven main guns in single turrets, as well as twelve torpedo tubes in triple launchers.

In many ways, Okhotnik is what one might expect if you scale the low tier Soviet destroyers up in size, with more guns and more torpedoes. However, Okhotnik’s guns fire slowly, with a base rate of fire of only 6 rounds per minute, and their base 180 degree turn time is 32.73 sec, meaning she can easily out-turn his turrets. His torpedoes are 450mm size, featuring 13,666 damage, a range of 4.5 km at 62 knots, and a stock reload of 47 seconds per launcher. Okhotnik takes the alpha strike of the low tier Soviet destroyers to the extreme, and pays for it in weapon reload and mobility. She bleeds large amounts of speed in turns, and feels sluggish to accelerate again. His large size also means she takes large amounts of damage from incoming fire. Overall, Okhotnik is an amusing destroyer to play if one likes to unleash large alpha strikes onto one's enemies.

:D
