Hi all,

I would like to get some advice to know if my current setup is viable or not to play this ship.  Here is a run down on what I have right now.:

Stock modules.

Ship Upgrades:

1. Main Armament Modification 1

2. Aiming System Modification 1

3. Empty

4. Stearing Gear Modification 1

5. Stearing Gear MOdification 1

6. Concealement System Modification 1

Captain Skill 14 Points

T1 Preventive Maintenance

T2 Last Stand (engine looks like it gets knocked out often)

T3 Demolition Expert

T4 Concealement Expert, Inertia Fuse for HE

I would like to use the torpedoes often but i was wondering if it was a bad idea or not.

THank your for any help on this. :)

You need AFT for the extra range. CE doesn't really help as your seen once you fire. Imho fire is better than IFHE. Russian DDs can't play the torpedo (stealth) game as well as USN/IJN so they are a secondary weapon. Concentrate on the guns.

Thank you very much for your answer.   So if i remove the IFHE (that penalyse fire starting chance), i can chose the AFT to get the better range with the points I have right now. It would help indeed since it has a short range.  What ship in lower tier would be a good trainer for the gunboat feel of this ship? I am not very good in it and want to gang the hang of it correctly.  with the same captain skill set.

I have  the Gremy and can buy or get any ship in lower tiers to get the hang of it.  Would the Gremy be fine for that?

If you want a low tier ship to practice with, the Storozhevoi is a good one to do it in, especially if you division with buddies who are tier 3 so you are in a tier 3/4 game.

Interesting Idea!  Thank you for your input on that.  I'll try to check some videos on how to gunboat properly.  Never really did that correctly.

Udaloi remained much the same through the patch. The only real difference I could spot is that it gained the ability to equip defensive fire. There may have been some minor changes to the torpedoes, but I did not see.

The order that I would recommend getting captain skills in is:

1) Priority target. 1

2) Last stand. 2

3) Demo Expert 3

4) Advanced firing training. 4

5) Basic firing training. 3

This takes you to 13 points. I see these skills as pretty much mandatory for any Udaloi play style. You then have six points to play with as you level out to 19 to make it fit your play style a little bit better.

The next skills I took in order where:

6) Adrenaline Rush 2

7) Survivability expert. 3

8) Preventative maintenance. 1 (I suppose a really strong argument could be made here for incoming Fire alert... But, I just find so little quantifiable use for anything other than priority target in an RU DD)

The sad news is, there really isn't a good trainer for RU DD's. As Gremy and Lenin, the two premiums have a much different play style and effectively require the use of expert marksman.

But, that 10-13km range is where I find my Udaloi to shine brightest. Lighting endless fires on ships that I cannot pen, and shredding softer ships.

Thank you very much for the complete answer Twitch133 !  I have reset captain and will try to play aroudn with that in the 10-13 km range :)

Gets my pretty hyped to actually have a path to try out and make things more fun with it!

Not the best player but I'm trying to improve at least lol.

Thanks again!

I took AFT also, over CE. Only have a 10pt captain in it but first game today was top xp earner with around 120k dmg or so. All stock but range(used free xp). One change I have noticed is that the torps seem less viable, but it's been a while that I played 'old' udaloi(got to khab). I remember being able to stealth torp quite easily but not now. Of course it could just be the lack of capt. skills. I have 19 on the khab(old udaloi capt). Someone enlighten me. More gunboat now or still able to do decently with torps?

Happy to be of help!

I may not be the best player or teacher. But I try to share what I can that will help when I can. If you have any other questions you think I may be able to help with, feel free to ask them here, PM or in game...

Happy barbecuing with that wonderful little flame thrower named Udaloi!!!

I'm playing it stock, but I'd say still more gunboat. If you are using stock torps, their range is only 6 km (I believe the old udaloi had 8km torps stock).

For sure... It is much more of a hybrid than Kiev was pre patch. Or Minsk now. As, when Upgraded, it really does have workable torpedoes.

But its guns are where it really shines. The more you can put into increasing the power of the guns, for modules or captains skills, the more it will shine.

If you are curious, here is my build for it, both modules and commander skills.

Interesting build. My build is/will be more orientated toward stealth. For my modules, I'm running the main armament mod in the first slot (I don't find detonations to be a problem personally), AA mod in slot 2, same in slot 3, same in slot 4, rudder shift in slot 5, and finally concealment in slot 6.

I'm only at 9 skill points, but my skills should look like:

1. Preventative maintenance

2. Last stand

3. Superintendent

4. AFT

5. Camo

I should have a good stealth fire window at that point and a very comfortable invisitorp window. After this, some mixture of gunnery skills, adrenaline rush and SE. I might drop Superintendent  but I figure while stock I'm going to have to lean on smokes a lot.

Has your Udaloi play changed at all with the patch?

I haven't really worried to much about stealth. The ship is so good at dodging anything thrown at it. Plus, I like doing what I call speed tanking. I draw attention. I had a match recently where I had 2 million potential shot at me.

I figure damage shot at me and splashing harmlessly into the ocean is better than damage stripped off of a battleship's health pool, right?

It has not changed at all after the patch. Short of having defensive fire to defend myself. Same thing with Gearing and Fletcher. I don't spend too much on AA, as I don't have the volume of fire to kill a lot of planes, but I can at least disrupt those TB's trying to drop on me.

I was so relieved when I got into it after the patch and realized that the ship barely changed. Its by far my favorite right now.

It's great to see different ways on doing things with the same ship! :)

I'll have time to take her out with new setup tonight and see how i can do with that setup. :)

A division of Udaloi's must be pretty scary to red team lol

Ouch, 2 millions  potential damage by weaving the ship around? Nice!
