mini map ship names not showing

i clicked the icon and even restarted the game and still didnt show

You press CTRL and enable it manually in the minimap settings during a battle, not in the settings or on by default. It also could just be that you're not pressing ALT to see them even if you enabled them

Ctrl-click on the gears top right of the minimap

Press ALT and they will appear for as long as you hold down the key
